You spent money so that you could earn it back? Idiots! Solar is no different - upfront spend for a future expected benefit that exceeds the spend. It is just that the benefit is a cost saving rather than income or capital gain. neither of you are understanding perhaps. He's talking about the irony of people who get solar to help the earth, nothing to do with solar rebates, paying the money back etc. Manufacturing a product, with lifespan, to generate energy to save the earth, but using the "unclean" energy to manufacture the products in the first place. And actually those things are slightly different imo. Investment properties pay their own mortgages plus around 20%, plus long term property growth, plus enables me to get a large portion of my tax back and have an income stream set up for when I retire.... I'd say that's a bit different to solar panels

The point is that for whole of life (including manufacture, transport, installation) solar has less environmental impact than producing the traditional types of energy you buy off the grid. The upfront cost vs long term benefit concept is the same - whether you are talking about financial cost or environmental impact. You are focussing on the specifics of the analogy rather than the principle - both are decisions to spend money upfront for a greater long term gain. Either way, solar panels have a lifespan, they need to be replaced.... so the financial and environmental impact isn't as insignificant as what its conceived to be. fyi.... not arguing the relevance of solar panels... and granted most people don't get them for the environmental benefits associated and mainly for financial.... but I just found arronm to be relevant for once... which was probably the most shocking thing of all. Incorrect, read what he posted. He's talking about people building solar to recoup their money. Lol now here's the irony. He doesn't gaf, he's just sh*tposting. The dude owns 11 motorbikes, 7 or whatever cars, several being highly tuned, 4 billion tv's etc etc. The rest of his post was bollocks too, cos I sure as sh*t am benefitting from the solar.

The only way you could have interpreted that was a financial statement and nt in reference to the environmental impact was the word "resources" which isn't actually necessarily in reference to monetary costs. He doesn't reference recouping any financial aspects only "ENERGY SPENT" not "money spent".
