Yeah I'm a bit lost where to start! Should have done the transfer at the time, even if I didn't have the time to edit.

Might try commercial options but they all seem to charge in balls rather than dollars.

Well, it's a self-selecting sample of information... I only post to give a advice when I have advice to give, whereas when I don't have advice I don't usually offer it :P

I have some advice.

1st is to Google a company that will do it for you.

Next would be to Google the requirements that you are asking about and working out how to do it.

3rd would be me asking for your home town and googling a transfer company for you.

4th is me googling the hardware and software requirements for your transfer and explaining to you.

I'm pretty sure that link will have you sorted.

If you get stuck I'll get googling for you.

It won't be until tomorrow though.

As I said the pro options are pretty pricey, as your link also confirms, for something I think I could DIY.

Sometimes a question in the off topic thread unearths someone with some practical first hand experience that is more useful than search results or ringing a professional. Heaps of examples of that through this thread.

one of my subscriptions on YouTube (wheezywaiter) did this a while back... that's all I know about it (he gets a video camera that connects by what looks like firewire to his his computer - https://youtu.be/RuKZ-jYtIz4?t=296) looks like he's using Adobe Premiere Pro on a mac to capture the input from the mini-dv camera, but I'm sure you could use a lot of different software.

Furry muff. That was the best I could think of off the cuff.

Perhaps someone will have done this before and provide a step by step guide.

I just did a quick google and found this.

The cheapest one I saw on ebay was around 300 aud.

Thanks guys. Yeah no DVD recorder here unfortunately to use that method.

I would have thought second hand cameras that use mini DV tapes would be cheap as they are old tech, but not so. I guess if I buy one though I should be able to resell at a similar price.

Ha you'd think they'd be cheap ay?! They're just an old camera/player.

I bought a lj 2 door in back in the year 2000 for $600 and it was sweet as. I bought an lh in 2002 that needed a trans for $250 plus $100 for a second hand trimatic. I replaced the diff for $60 when it broke.

Good luck finding anything like that nowadays.
