Sooooo the owner of the rental I'm currently in got my letter and dropped by for a chat this morning.

They'd happily sell the house to me, which is cool...but now it's trying to figure out if the price range he's suggested is fair and if I want to pay that much...

Sounds epic.  Was his vehicle moving in a circular motion at the time?

We didn't see it, but heard a huge rev up then a massive bang.

It was a way from where most people had parked, so I gather he has tried to do epic entrance and turned it into a epic fail.

Explain this one to misses or the boss on monday or the insurance company. Hahaha.

Easiest/best is to get an independent valuation done (not an agent)

Valuation will give an honest idea of what the place is worth rather than an agents "pulled out of their arse to make the person asking interested" price

They also won't have any vested interests.

Easiest is to do what boxy said which was what I had in mind. This is more of a general thing to do when browsing dozens of properties.

In this case, as there is already a property chosen for purchase you should get an independent valuation and building inspection.

You don't want to buy a nice looking house only to find out that it needs underpinning  (like houses in Freeling) or something stupid like that.
