I'll just leave this here.

A Kalgoorlie man who allegedly set fire to a house and assaulted two police officers on Sunday night was remanded in custody yesterday.

Jamie Quirk, 34, allegedly started a fire at 29 Hanbury Street on Sunday night, causing about $200,000 worth of damage.

Kalgoorlie Detective Sergeant Chris King said police went to the house to execute a search warrant at 8.15pm, where police entered the home using a key.

He said police were expecting the property to be empty but when they arrived they found the door barred.

Det. Sgt King said police forced the door open and found Mr Quirk had allegedly set the house on fire.

He claimed Mr Quirk sprayed two officers in the face and eyes with a banned bromochlorodifluoromethane fire extinguisher.

He said police were forced to taser Mr Quirk before arresting him and he was taken to Kalgoorlie Health Campus to be treated for smoke inhalation and burns.

The two officers were taken to hospital to be treated for chemical spray and another two were treated for minor injuries as a result of the arrest.

Det. Sgt King rejected community speculation that the house was used as a meth lab and said Mr Quirk had not poured diesel over himself as suggested on several social media posts.

“They (police) didn’t go looking for him but he made their job a lot harder,” he said.

Arson squad detectives investigated the property yesterday and would test material for accelerants.

Mr Quirk was remanded in custody to appear again in Kalgoorlie Magistrate's Court on November 28 to allow him to apply to Legal Aid.

In his brief appearance at Kalgoorlie Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where Mr Quirk seemed to have bruising to his face and walked with a limp, he did not apply for bail.

The investigation is ongoing.

I have a few of these torches from K-Mart:

$3 each & I've never had a problem with them apart from flat batteries. With the hook & the magnet on the back, they are handy for finding the tiniest sliver of paper jammed in a printer or for hanging in a Server rack so you have both hands free for sorting out cabling etc.
