I can't dig up the thread again (because it got deleted along with your account) and I don't want to bother to find my sources again right now. Sonic booms are reached at 1.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000(recurring)1 x the velocity of sound in the current medium of travel.

But please, go on deluding yourself. You're the only one here who actually needs to know this stuff.

and that tells me you have no idea...you forgot the aspect of lift and how it affects air. Air over the wing will be faster than air below the wing at mach 1. the actual plane isn't going the speed of sound and a vortex cone is NOT created and thus why a sonic boom is not heard because the airflow is still slower under the plane than above it and hence why the plane must be in the vicinity of Mach 1.2 to be supersonic not transonic.

but please carry on telling me im wrong and how you did physics at school

I just simplified the physics to a particle, not a full size plane xD Of course there's subtle differences in airflow on different shape planes. I'm sure your figure of 1.2 is higher/lower depending on the way air flows over the plane in question...

Anyway, when a sonic boom occurs was never my concern... I was only stating in that thread two things: sonic boom intensity differences at higher than the speed of sound and if those intensities were enough to be a destructive nuisance to people on the ground.

it was such a fantastic thread... no insults, only opinions, thoughts and evidence... such a shame that it's gone.
