No I'm not.

There's so many great sauces to have with a BBQ

None of the ones labeled "BBQ Sauce" are on that list.

Fact

God has already "appeared"... Jesus Christ...He was born of a virgin (fulfilling scripture)...

Scientific proof of how conception works from a cellular and DNA level says that if a homosapiens is born, it cannot be of a lack of sperm inseminating an egg... so it depends on your definition of "virgin", really... so if this supposed "human" is born of a lack of insemination, then it's either a lie or the life spoken of in general is non-human (or  non-DNA based).

He died for the sins of the world, you and me included, paying the debt that we owe for our sin.

Even if it were true (which it isn't), I wouldn't want to embrace an idea of "vicarious redemption" in such a way because it implies that the "sins", no matter how severe, are assumed by the person in question (who knows if this person may have died rather than commit a heinous "sin"). The whole process is immoral and the concept of revealed truth ruins our concept of free intelligence by purportedly relieving us of the hard task of working out the ethical principles for ourselves.

He rose from the dead, overcoming death.

This is impossible, by the words used. Dying implies he did not overcome death. If he was re-animated into the same molecular structure and with the same laws of physics governing our world, then it's likely he wouldn't have the memories or motor skills to function as he did previously.... causality's a bitch :)

Jesus Christ was a historical figure (he really did exist...)...either 1 of 2 things-

1. God in the flesh as he said.

2. the biggest and most successful hoax in the entire history of the human race.

There's much debate on whether this specific person even existed. It's likely somebody religiously palpable existed at the same time and place, but the stories and myth surrounding said person are patently untrue. Number two of your options is extremely probable, based on evidence. There's plenty of proof to say that the parts of the Bible that concern Jesus "appearing" was written hundreds of years after the supposed time that Jesus lived... that's not a prophecy, that's just a storytelling (and an extremely inaccurate and fanciful one at that).

western culture is formed on the basis of Christianity.

Modern western culture has been driven by scientifically sound principles which have shown a population explosion in the last 200 years (along with all of our creature comforts). This isn't because of Christianity, as it had thousands of years to be as successful (and failed to do so) as science has in just a handful of decades. I don't doubt the "cultural" significance, but our way of life is specifically dependant on

science will never replace religion...I love true science, I can even share with you scientific facts from the Bible...

I love truth. To get to truth, the scientific method is used, so in a way, I love science, too. A "scientific fact" is one that is independently verifiable by multiple sources of evidence. I'd like you to find something in the Bible that is historically significant and has multiple sources of corroborating evidence (there's nothing, I've checked). Science and religion can co-exist, but a solely scientific mindset invalidates faith or belief, so it's possible that ubiquitous scientific thought will eradicate faith/belief systems. I look forward to that future :spoton:

It's not necessarily for the people who are "devout" as their minds are unlikely to be changed. It's actually for those people who are either unsure or who are partially "sitting on a fence". The secondary reason is just because it's quite an interesting discussion to speak to different people and hear and contrast their points of view on such core topics.

I feel I should point out here that there's a fair few of us on a similar wavelength to Keith with this topic...does that scare anyone else a little bit? :couch3:

Hey Rab

It's not about changing ones beliefs. It's about me as much as anyone else. And If you can get one person to begin to think critically (and they can still be religious) than it's all worth it.

May you be touched by his noodly appendage

Garbage - If I can get one single person to renounce BBQ sauce and expand their tastes to experience the glory that is available when they look beyond the drivel that the Supermarkets offer I will rest easy.
