It's been done before: Educate and give women choice over their reproductive cycle, prevent indoctrination of children (into any religion and/or cult) and provide a fair and balanced education system for everybody and give the kids choice on what to continue learning. Science will win :)

I agree and provide further thought to your comment.

Everything is fair and balanced given uniform context for specific subcultures. Imo we should choose what benefits society as a whole.

Kids want lollies for breakfast and wouldn't know their arse from a hole in the ground when it comes to long term decision making.

Science can't win due it's very nature of disproving. It will explain a lot of things though.

I meant science will be chosen more often than religion... most children have the wherewithal to discover the holes in stories of faith. :spoton: Education overall is a whole other topic...

It should be eventually, but fear can be a strong motivator for children given the context of this conversation. :(

Education is the foundation of our day to day lives and the very reason for the existence of a car forum.

Self-education, I agree. I was referring to the overall education system, though (like I said, a whole other discussion topic regarding that one). I just firmly count on a life of reason outweighing a life of faith :spoton:

I agree 100% Keith.

What this conversation hints at is a global system/government/curriculum which imo is a long way off yet.

I think we should be tolerant of different ideas and cultures but draw the line at personal infringement in day to day activities.

We need to keep learning and asking why?!

Hearing it twenty times a day from your kids gets annoying though but that is how we further our society.

This is where science and the internet are wonderful tools... you can find out "why" to soooooooooooooooooo many things... To be a kid in this "more mature" internet age :)

Stupid kids asking questions. reason, sound logic and the ability to be wrong is why I am not particularly religious.

I think the current education is still too focused on what to think not how to think and things like the naplam or whatever tests don't help with that

My wife is a teacher and she assures me that the education system is changing from when we were kids (I'm 36).

She confirmed in her half asleep state (sorry babe) that education is still centred on what to think and not how.

I think that it's more important to know how to learn than to actually learn facts by rote although it has it's place.
