I know it's not wholly relevant to the conversation, but my folks have had two pools over the years (two homes) and both were above-ground ones planted in the ground. Works totally fine and a bit cheaper too, I believe (plus it helps that they've got a friend who has an excavator to cut costs even more).

I just drained and cleaned mine out last week. 44000L in ground concrete. I hate em. Pain in the arse. I've gotta get a new chlorinator before I fill it back up. Replaced the pump last season.

Definitely have to agree with ya there when there still above the ground.

Mums is paved all the round and a 3.5m x 8m pool plus we got council approval to have no fencing around the pool, just auto close systems on all exit doors out to the pool. Door handles raised as well.

Myself I love the old 80's - 90's concrete pools. Or a big fibre glass one.

Once theyre sunken its astetically fine... its just the appearance of it above ground is gross..

Puff highly doubt it... I see little point in above grounds as theyre too shallow as well...

Id way prefer a nice cold spa in the summer with my ice bucket full of wine than an above grounder... the only way id have a pool is like boxstock said... a nice concrete one or a fibreglass one.

Edit: also summer doesnt reqlly effect me much... I actually enjoy the warm...I would more likely use a nice heated in ground in winter as much as summer..... plus I married a pom so my house is 17 all year round regardless hahaha

Each to their own I guess.

Some pool is better than no pool I reckon.

A spa is definitely a cost effective yet still aesthetically pleasing option which is also useable in winter too.

Going by the weather in adelaide today swimming in a pool seems so far away, where the fark is the warmer spring weather.

Im still stoking my combustion heater in the middle of September:ermm: and cranking the split system to stay warm.

Mother nature is toying with us.....or punishing us for global warming...

Cold air is fun when I'm in the car :)

Chilly spring days with the sun shining are awesome.

no such thing as global warming.

That's why they changed the rhetoric to "climate change"
