Haha, I love these sort of situations. Reminds me of a Vac student job I had during uni. I rocked up and asked what they'd like me to do, which was met with "do you know much about databases and how to use Microsoft Access?"...I did not. Got given a big fat book on Access and a couple of weeks to build a database that could be used as a report/book library look-up type system. I actually really enjoyed myself during that time, it was great being given an idea but having full creative control over what I did with it. I ended up making this rather pretty interface that had clickable buttons that took you to different sections based on what sort of search they wanted to do, or if they wanted to input a new report etc, had combo boxes and dropdown lists aplenty too. They were pretty stoked with it when I'd finished too :)

MS Access is quite a handy application. Doesn't get quite the mainstream credit it deserves though.

Definitely made life easier to organize for me when I had my own small business.

I truthfully think that MS Access and MS Excel are the two most under appreciated pieces of software.. I've met some muppets sitting there with a calculator doing sums in excel..

I use excel in a fairly extreme way but compared to some people I'm barely scratching the surface of what it can actually do..

I used MS Access back when the wife was running her own business to set her up a client database, which would record everything she input into this relatively simple front panel.. I was so proud of what I set up.. Yet I don't think she ever truly understood the effort that went into it..

Agreed. At my workplace I would be somewhat considered an advanced user of excel...yet I feel I barely know what's going on, so much more to learn. I'll hopefully be going on an advanced course or two soon though that cover VBA etc :wwww:

That Vac work job was the last time I really did much with access tbh. BUT our company recently went the process of paying some company a HUGE amount of money for some browser based database that was supposed to solve all our reconciliation and data inconsistency problems we were having because we were using spreadsheets...truth is we didn't really have any problems, and you can always adjust a spreadsheet or lock certain sections down to minimise potential errors. Long story short, after a good year or more of pushing sh*t uphill to get this "amazing" database to mimic what we already do it's in the process of being canned because it still doesn't offer us the flexibility of excel spreadsheets.
