His predecessor was very polite and a kind hearted person but towards the end of his career (he retired) he just lost all motivation to work, would take extra long bathroom breaks, etc. I ended up having to take on more and more of his duties. The boss has advised me that as long as I establish what the average amount of daily work expected to be completed is the rest should take of itself.
