I had a good look today (actually removed the intake pipe), and on mine the plug is connectred to the switch or whatever it is inserted on the 5-6mm hose running from the compressor to the wastegate actuator

God only knows what it does!

Guys, a little suggestion for you and one that is completely worthwhile to educate yourself about turbos and the way they work which once you understand will make the job of modifying them (which is so simple!) easy and SAFE! Go to www.autospeed.com.au and search through the archives to find stories about boost control. Well worth the read!

the latest on the unconnected switch.

I e-mailed a photo to the service manager at Centre Ford enquiring about the unconnected plug. he phoned me and said that after checking with ford they advised the connector should be connected and he had no explanation as to why mine wasn't. "must have been overlooked during assembly" he said. the valve is an electronic boost control connected to the EMS. we agreed that I would plug it in and it can be checked at 3,000km in a couple of weeks.

I agree Scott52, it should be connected.

What I found was that the wastegate spring is set to about 4 psi, so without the electronic boost control (or bypassing it) you are running low boost pressure.

The XR6T works by keeping the valve closed until correct pressure is measured in the inlet manifold, and if you look to the right of the throttle body (cabin side) you will see the sensor and its wiring. Once the sensor detects boost, it will ask the computer to manage this to stay at calibrated values (6psi) maximum.

I'm not sure how you have been able to drive your car without the wire connected, as you must have had either no regulation at all, or only been running the pre-set wastegate spring pressure.

At least the above is how I think it works
