Well it is just like any other guage - you know what reading is normal - so over a period in time if the readings change it indicates something may need attention. So, with a boost guage you would be looking at lower boost readings if the turbo starts to wear out ie the turbine to housing clearance will increase over time and the turbine may need rebuilding. Also the revs at which max boost is achieved may increase over time due to the same reason. In day to day driving you may use it to maximise your economy - it is surprising how a small change in throttle position can cause massive differences in fuel consumption but not a great improvement in power - you learn to be gentle and progressive with throttle application and not to use more boost than is necessary. Even 2 psi makes a huge difference in performance but doesn't hurt much in the wallet. But just an eighth of an inch more throttle and you'll have full boost, max fuel usage, but not a whole lot more power. For all you guys out there who haven't lived with a turbo before, try what I'm saying and you'll see the results for yourself. It is a "Trico" brand that was on special at Repco before xmas at $39.95. now that you've seen the photos can anybody explain what the unconnected switch/valve on the wastegate hose is all about and why is it not connected to the plug that is obviously for that connector. harasn said he checked at the proving ground and the vehicles there were the same. He also said the plug should be connected. But why would Ford roll them out without it plugged in! If no one has the answer I'm going try to find out when my 3000k service is due in about a month. The radiator overflow hose is in the way. Grab a torch and have a good poke around
