You're right Dags (ignoring the valet tune comment from some obscure person that's talking about heading for a Skoda) - it is a mere decision away. If they go *brain snap*..... well - wave ta ta or see them in court ($costs the same amount$).

After this little episode, I've developed eyes in the back of, side of, top of and underneath my head. Even considered buying a set of Extenda Mirrors so I can see who's around. (LOL - just kidding Tab - I'm going to borrow yours.)

If I'm not certain that I'm on a "semi private road", it won't be called upon to deliver the full valet payload. Maybe half. But not all.

Ps - Scotty: whats a Traction Control? Oh - and PS - Pat - it wasn't THAT sideways, it was just a little bent, ok?

So anyway - after that light and happy interlude - my first PRACTICAL experience with "hooning laws" was an absolute crack.

Centre lane of traffic going up the hill on KG Rd toward Brisbane city, stopped about a car length behind a gravel truck at a red light. Had been raining over night - but damp in the gutters. Truck starts to roll backward, so I duck into the left T2 lane. Light goes green and I accelarate - and yes - lose traction and go a tad sideways - as I get back into the centre lane out of the T2. Next thing, Const. Plonk on his bike is behind me and we pull over for a chat. He was sitting in a side street.

Might add here that I have all my points, and have not been booked for 20 years on any driving offence. How to be cleverer than them is my motto....[/size]

If you were a few years younger it may have been a complete different story

I think you were lucky

Yeah Pete - it's important to tell that in this story - that's why it's there...... and maybe it is or isn't "discretionary". Once again - it's who you get at what time of day making a decision on your future. CeLaVie...

And Tab - as for you not letting me borrow your caravan mirrors - pfft. I'll get me own. And no - my initial thought was "oh surely he's not pulling me up for being in a T2 at 8.55 - surely", and as the truck was the issue, I was on the offensive and had a good story. It wasn't until he started on about the hoon stuff that I started to get the drift (LOL sorry - forgive the pun). Afterwards I was sort of amazed and dumbfounded really. :kissmy:

(hope I haven't upset Scotty - he lives real close to me.....)

Meanwhile - last night at the Gold Coast:

Operation Trap Door

More than 370 motorists were stopped and breathalysed during the second Operation Trap Door traffic enforcement campaign conducted in the Southport police division.

One hundred and thirteen (113) motorists were issued with infringement notices for offences including creating undue noise (fishtailing), speeding, red light offences; fail to wear seat belt, and driving unregistered, uninsured and defective motor vehicles. Five (5) people were issued with Notices to Appear for unlicensed driving under the new Type 2 Vehicle Impoundment legislation. Four (4) people were charged with driving while under the influence of liquor, with the highest reading being 0.149%.

Operation Trap Door was conducted at the Broadwater carpark, as well as other known hoon ‘hot spots’ and major arterial roads in and around the Southport Division between 7pm and 3am yesterday and involved police from Southport, Gold Coast Traffic Branch, State Traffic Task Force as well as Vehicle Inspectors from the Department of Transport.

Acting Senior Sergeant Scott Bolitho, Officer-in-Charge, Southport Police Station said the aim of Operation Trap Door has been to reduce the incidents of road trauma by targeting driver behaviour and vehicle defects within the Southport policing area. The on-going operation has a primary focus on hooning and the new ‘Type 2’ legislation encompassing Unregistered Vehicles, Unlicensed Driving, illegally modified vehicles and drink driving offences of 0.15% or more, which may lead to a driver’s vehicle being impounded.

“Despite the weather, numerous offences were detected during Operation Trap Door,” he said.

“Police issued thirty-one tickets (31) for speeding, one of the highest being 113km/hr in a 60km/hr zone in Ashmore. Another vehicle was detected doing 160km/hr on the M1 Motorway at Helensvale. Seven (7) vehicles were impounded for hoon offences, one was seized after observed doing burnouts on the Gold Coast Highway at Labrador. The driver was also charged with drink driving after recording a result of 0.075%. Several vehicles were also issued tickets after speeding or doing ‘fishtails’ under the full observation of police while at the Broadwater carpark,” Acting Senior Sergeant Bolitho said.

“Whilst general crowd and motoring enthusiasts were cooperative and well behaved, there were some noted exceptions.

“Several motorists at the Broadwater carpark were issued tickets after speeding or doing burnouts in the carpark or leaving the carpark. The attitude and behaviour of some drivers is disappointing”, Acting Senior Sergeant Bolitho said.

“The initial Trap Door operation conducted on the 10th of November 2007 resulted in 221 people being breath tested, with five vehicles impounded under the hoon legislation, 66 infringement notices issued, two people were charged with drink driving and four people served Notices to Appear for disqualified driving”.

“The overall results only cement our resolve to continue these operations on a regular basis,” Acting Senior Sergeant Bolitho said.

just another way to target car enthusiasts if you ask me, if you drive like a d*ckhead you should be booked or whatever, but come on, I can see this becoming a bigger problem.... what happens when some un-educated w*nker does a bit of a skid then see's red and blue sh*ts his/her gear and decides to run for it in fear thier car will be confiscated.... before you know it we'll be just like america. make penalties fair, simple as that, if someone gets charged with rape they don't get thier d*ck cut off (even though they should) if someone gets charged for assault they don't get thier fist's removed, so why should someone lose thier car over something which is GENERALLY harmless to others (within reason of course).....

If car enthusiests are the cause of a problem then they should be targeted, just like drug dealers, but the ongoing issue is much broader then that. We do, however, continue to make a loose association between car enthusiests and the 'hoon' label without any valid support.
