sly meat this the post I was responding to if the cops realy think your average hoon should be treated the same as drug dealers , I think that's a problem and I'm not talkin dickhead drivers that push the limits I'm talkin about some one playin up a little bit I really don't think they come in to the same class as dealers ,

without being to harsh, I think you two boys in blue might be out numbered on this one ,general opinion seems to be the law itself is a dangerous law that lends itself to, too much discretion

Drug dealing kills people and so do our street racing car hoons, but again this loose association with car enthusists continues to worry people.

And, the 4 of us are often out numbered but we always make that up with always being right!

Yet another example is the F3 heading north out of Sydney, a section was lowered to 90 (or was it 80,can't remember now) to try and lower the amount of accidents in this area. Needless to say it didn't work and now the limit is back to what it was with the limit automatically lowered in wet weather.

This part of the F3 Sh!ts me to tears and its been like this for 5 years now, with a couple of cameras for the entertainment. It is also the only roadway I know of that has a wet weather variable speed limit which I believe is unenforcable due to the broad iterpretations that can be drawn from adverse weather.

Though the principle of 'when I doubt, hand em out', might apply.

That's the reason a lot of people don't like police.

I had my fare share of fines in the last few years, sure no one is happy when they get fined but soon after you realize that you were punished because you were doing something wrong and you accept that police are just doing their job, until you get slapped with a fine you know you didn't deserve, and that's when the immediate anger towards police stays for much longer.

So answer me this, why cant a case of 'hooning' go to court, the evidence heard, THEN the car gets confiscated???

Why confiscate first? go to court second?

Why arent police cars and officers manditorily fitted out with cameras to provide UNAMBIGUOUS evidence of the crimes, then let a magistrate or some other newly formed judiciary decide on an appropriate penalty? (I say this as they would not want the court system clogged anymore than it already is)

They dont seems to mind putting cameras everywhere else...

is it becuase the police dont want them?

why is that? If they are not criminals, they should have nothing to hide.

could it be for the same reasons we dont like to see cameras on the roadside??? :spoton:

oh, and my opinion on this, these laws are a knee jerk reaction to some of the horrific crashes somtimes caused by hooning.

IMHO, the result of this law in its current form, MORE horrific crashes as hoons try to outrun the police in thier 400+rwkw turbo cars, for fear of getting their car confiscated. If I thought I was going to get busted, id run thinking I had I high chance of getting away knowing that I have a much faster car than a police car...

who the hell voted for these politicians anyway??? I love irony...

Have been screaming out for cameras in the cars for years, they are a great tool and make things alot easier the issue is money. Having a camera fixes alot of complaints etc etc.

that's why we have number plates.

As for the fines, the fines issued by police are usually the minimum the judiciary can easily give much much more and in some cases this is waranted. We should also be taking the cars of drink drivers and crushing them.

~ but again this loose association with car enthusists continues to worry people.

~

this is very true. but I see it time and time again. its an easy test. pull up to anyone in the street or at the shops, show them you modified ford stopped on the side of the road, and ask them if you are a hoon.

everyone will say yes. I asked all my family out of interest, not a single no. not one of them has ever driven with me. perhaps its just the fact that im 25?

its the police comissioner heading to TT or ACA every 2nd week feeding them the bullsh*t that has tarnished everyone with a modified car (or even a nice car for that matter) a hoon. Him being associated with those pathetic stories showing genuinely stupid people doing stupid stuff that has the affect on us all.

IMO

Sorry mate, it wasn't directed at you, but you comment reminded me of the fact that this does happen and it's not very rare either. People get slapped with fines just because police officer thinks they have done something wrong, even though they maybe didn't.

By the way, how about we start a tread "Ask Police", as we have few police officers in here maybe they could answer peoples questions from their point of view or give facts.

For example we have senna_t who is a great help to anyone with any Ford related issues, either warranty or any other dealer or manufacturer related.

We might just bring law enforcement and car enthusiasts closer together (I won't hold my breath though) lol
