Awesome car Mark... should be top day at Wakefield with 2 rapids running around confusing the EVOs lol

Rob mate, looks tuff now! What size tyre did they want to put on the 10.5?? I got 285/30s fitted up last week but they looked like dune buggy tyres, so I got them swapped for 275s

Not too keen on running the big tune on standard internals, but I will throw it in for a run down the strip. So, we'll see how long the internals last with Jim's tunes. :stupid:

Just a quick update.

The internals lasted a total of 93 days.

Today the car grenaded in 2nd gear, 50-60% throttle roll on. Tyres lost traction, then bang. Car was under boost, not compression.

Pretty sure I'm running (was running) my 370 street tune.

Not sure exactly what has let go, or what was the cause. Leaned out? Rod simply let go? (remember, standard BA rod) Dunno yet. But things appear to have exited stage left. Found some piston, piston pin, rod, and block at the scene of detonation.

A connecting rod cap is sitting on the crossmember, passenger side.

Clutch line from master cylinder to slave cylinder has been taken out by debris. (I guess. It's gooooooone)

Just hoping I have no valve/head damage.

But will probably just source a complete BF motor for transplant irregardless of head damage or not.

The car has been out of action for a few weeks with niggling clutch issues, now this. It's a shame, I'm falling out of love with this car.

I have really grown fond of my WRX... :buttonit:

Sidenote: I do not hold Jim accountable for the damage. I am fully aware of the limits of standard BA internals, and the fine line I've been balancing on since having the car tuned to this power. :makedeal:

condolences on the lost mate, but dont lose hope. with the right advice & abit of research it can be brought back to life better than before. good luck & just think of the fun youve had in it when your thinking of getting rid of it.

I'd like to say sorry to Mark, blah blah blah. But, I think your only gunna build a tuffer motor, so it will work out better for you in the end.

Maybe you and Headsex can get a group buy on engine blocks, as his is gunna chuck a leg out of bed tomorrow night. :bangcomputer:

All the best with it aye.

Rob

Thanks lads. Appreciate it

Already thinking once putting a new motor in, I'll get bigger squirters and join the 400 club. Just to condole myself...

Recovered the car back to work and jacked the front up today.

Looks like number 6 is the culprit. Here's some (lowsy) pics.

The clutch line is intact, after I thought it had taken shrapnel.

It would seem the clutch damage (dropped all clutch fluid when the engine blew) is internal. I'm guessing, though I'm at a loss to explain how, the slave cylinder has somehow taken one for the team. I'm a little nervous that there may be damage to the clutch when it comes out, and gearbox. Flywheel appears fine, though I can only see a fraction of it through the inspection port.

Moving house next weekend so no work till I'm in the new place. Then I'll get the car there, and pull the gearbox out. Should be interesting to see what has gone on in there.

PS, anyone know of any BF motors for sale? XR6T or typhoon... Don't need ancillaries. Just bottom end, including oil pump, and possibly top end.

Sad to hear mate. I really admire your car, just keep the thing and rebuild it. After all the work you have done yourself it would be a shame to see it go. Your rex may be good and reliable but its not putting out 381rwk !!!!

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I'm gonna keep the big girl. Just in the process of stripping her down ready to lift the motor out next weekend.

Just about to climb under and pull the gearbox out, and remove the dump pipe from the turbo. Then I just have some wiring to disconnect, loosen the engine mounts, and she'll be ready to lift.

I've sourced a BA F6 motor to slot in. Hoping to pick it up and have the swap done next weekend.
