Rear Bushes

Hey Guys

Just had our 15,000k service and have had to book the car in again as they need to replace the bushes near the diff (??) as they have started to crack. Was told by the servicing guy that it is a common probelm and will always happen as the car "has a lot of power" and if left any longer will start to get a knock at the rear of the car everytime you take off, as the diff will hit the bottom of the car.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem as it is so common apparently and if there is a better solution than selling the car at the end of it manufacturer warranty cause we need to pay them for a full days work dropping the rear to replace some bushes every 15,000k.

What's worse is the wife drives it more than me so doesn't really get that much of a workout until the weekends!!

Any advice/suggestions appreciated!!

You can replace the rear main bush (the one he is referring to) with a polyurethane Bush from Fulcrum (super pro).

Note this bush will never wear out, the only downside is slightly increased mechanical noise transmitted into the cabin. (I.e if you ever noticed diff whine before at certain speeds, this will now be a little more apparent). and you are more likely to hear clunks when abrubtly lifting off power / upshifting / downshifting.

The only other thing to be wary of, when using this firmer bush, is you do increase the chance of braking the standard diff cover plate.

on standard power, not a major concern, but for $300 you can purchase a strengthened cover from Mal Woods and replace it whilst the diff is out of the car.

Budget $400 for labour to remove the rear cradle assembly and fit bush then re-install.

and the bush was around $80 from memory.

very common problem for the turbo powered cars and v8's due to the torque and power they generate, big design flaw on the BA-BF falcon.

Cool, thanks for that. I've got it booked it in next week under warranty but will look in to getting some of the bushes from redranger.

I am assuming, and don't know if Senna_T can shed some light, that they will just replace it with the standard bushes, if so any idea why?? if they are aware of the issue particularly if there are after market fixes for it why they haven't found a solution themselves??

Has anyone ever got a dealer to put a different replacement in ie, rather than getting them to replace with standard, provide them with the bushes and get them to put them in??? I can't think of any???

Yes they will do this, but they wont warrant the durability of the non ford part.

explain to them that this is a well known problem in the forums with users replacing the standard bush many times over, with repeated failings. State you dont wish to do it again in 15,000kms and you would like to use the aftermarket bush.

You will just have to foot the cost of the bush, but in my opinion this would be worthwhile for the peice of mind.

I'd like to apologise about that - not that it will help much, but if you ever need anything from us, let me know.

Mate I know its got nothin to do with your end. Its the whole after sales service that is steering me away from getting another ford or a falcon anyway. If I was buying I know who to see 1st

Yeah, wouldn't have expected them to pay or cover the part with a warranty but like you said don't really want to be going through this again in another 15,000k's.

Thanks very much for all your input guys....
