Ive had this issue since getting my car.

Its expected though if your car is only doing around 20km's between starting and turning off the car.

Open highway I get almost 700km's.

Mixed I get around 450km's

Currently I barely scrape in 350km/tank

Mike, unforuntately there is no real way to save on fuel unless you get an auto.

Ok I don't get it, my car uses about 13lt per 100 and that's mainly city driving and giving it a squirt at least once each time I drive it.

It seems there is a MASSIVE difference in between different cars. It surely can't all come down just to the manner it is driven, cause there are people on here saying they baby it and still get 18lt and others saying they give it some and get 12lt. Is it just that the factory setup is really inconsitent???

Maybe you should also ask why there is a big difference in power output between identical cars. This may reflect on the difference in fuel consumption too.

hi guys,

I've had my T for aproximatley 2 weeks now and love every thing about the car apart from the fuel bill. its an 04 5spd manual done 58000k's. I dont drive it that often. when I do I give it a bit of a squirt now and then but mainly the mrs just putts it around town during the week yet the fuel consumption doesnt go under 16l/100k's. its costing me about $75 a week to go less than 300k's!

I'm not going to mod the car for more power because of warranty concerns but what can I do to improve the blasted fuel economy?

otherwise if petrol gets much dearer it will be the shortest ownership in history.

cheers

mike.

What's the service history like on your car?

I'd recommend having the fuel filter changed, pump screen clean and replacing the O2 sensor. What fuel do you run in it?

usually a 95 octane. mainly vortex. service history is good as it's ex telstra fleet

so what u mean to say is that it was run on 91 octane all its life??

total fuel system clean buddy....

Sounds about normal to me.

I have a Mk2 t with a six speed. Just did a 400K round trip and reset the trip computer before I left. Sitting in sixth at 110KM/h with the cruise controll on returned 10.4L/100K with two adults and a chock-full boot of camping crap.

In the city and if I baby it really well, I might get 13.5L/100K. If I don't care that week and drive 'normally', I'd return 16+/100L easy

400km/15.9L = 67L total filled

380km/19.8L = 65L total filled.

so far this tank (89km into it) its showing 20.1l/100 muahhahaha.. .then then agian - im running in my engine :) needs a bit of a spirited drive here and there :)

Well I'm struggling to get 250km before it fuel light turns on :-(

Could I blame it on the old dodgy valve springs???

Faaaaaaaark that's bad. What do you do with your car, drag race or circuit race it on the streets?
