My suprise was how much fuel it used when driven sedately. I've owned a highly modified turbo RX7 in the past - a car known to drink fuel. But when driven normally, it returned much better fuel economy than the T. Sure, give it a bootfull and you'd swear it was puring straight out of the exhaust in liquid form, but driven in traffic it was not all that much worse than the 1.8l astina I also had as a runabout. The T seems to drink fuel in traffic to an extent I never imagined.

To be honest guys we all complain about fuel economy with the Ts

Somehow I dont think we should be to suprised with the way it chews fuel

It is a big six with a turbo mounted to it

If we wanted economy we should of bought a fiesta or a hyundai

Cant have it both ways Power and fuel miser

I wish we could

*sigh*

the issue here is that my car drinks more fuel than another of the same type of car or even ones that have been modified. :nono:

There is only one way to do a proper fuel consumption test.

Fill the tank up to the first click of the trigger reset the speedo trip meter not the trip computor drive the car until ready to fill again go to same bowser and fill until first click again.

now subtract the litres used from the k's done this will give you the right figure.

The trip computor is only a giude and a dollar figure is not the right way to check either.

Ian

wouldnt you divide the k's done by the litres used?

Yes sorry about that hard day at work.

You really need to get it checked out, I have read a lot of forums on this subject and you should have an average of about 14lt/100 the way you drive it but like it has been stated before these are high preformace cars even my EF XR6 with my foot to the floor I can watch the fuel gauge drop in seconds but that's why I bought it.

I read somewhere Ford claim 12.3lt/100 for the XR6T easy driving.

What are your K's, fuel consumption does get better once run in.

The consumption does seem a little high. Once you've had the car checked out you can also consider getting an edit for the car.

The stock FoMoCo programs do run the car fairly rich. A good tuner can give you a high power map and an economy map. :spoton:

Do you think there is much difference in fuel consumption between the turbo and NA when driven easy?

I nail my NA with extractors, exhaust and CAI and I am using 12L/100 kms :spoton:

Put a wide band air fuel ratio meter to see what ratios its running. I know that falcons tend to run on the richer side. I tested a stock BA falcon and it was running at 14.2 A/F ratio alot of the time on cruise. On the other hand I tested a Supercharged VT and it was heaps leaner, 14.7 then it would switch to lean cruise at 16+ A/F ratio. This is why this car gets really good economy.

As someone said if you get the edit you can afford to lean it off right across the fuel map and even give it a little more advance at cruise.

I for one are not complaining.

Mine is an 04 stock auto and I get around 580kms to a tank no matter where or how I drive it.
