BA xr6 turbo with a custom tune and a couple of other bits tuned to 270 odd rear wheel kW and its averaging 13.3L/100 around town. Pretty happy with that

Hi Blueprint Me,

I can't remember the revs the stock XR6 used to sit on at 110km/h (it's been 5 yrs since I sold her), it was probably in the same range as your auto as you say, but my ZF sits under 2000pm.

I think the utes used to weigh a tad more than the sedans (I could be wrong). I just remember driving her to work and back and having to fill up just short of a fortnight (around 60k's round trip from near Perth airport to just outside Fremantle and back). I used to do 1:2, 1 tank of 95 to 2 tanks of 91. It just annoyed me that the XR8 guys were getting the same results lol.

Anyway, I couldn't be happier with the ZF huge difference, I'm just saving to get her tuned and hopefully that will giver her better economy as well as power.... only when needed lol.

Cheers

Hi ice186,

Funny you should mention that you're getting just short of a fortnight's worth before needing to fill up - I'm in the exact same boat and know that feeling, trying to hit the petrol price cycle at its cheapest lol! 45km round trip x 10 working days for me in the fortnight was bringing down the DTE to zero. Once I ran out in peak hour on Hoddle St (right next door to the MCG) bloody embarrasing. Eventually I overcame it by working from home one day per fortnight.

Couldn't agree with you more on the ZF - I wish I had one. Mate of mine has a Territory (non turbo) with the ZF box and what a huge difference it makes to the old clunker 4sp job including improved fuel consumption. My wife likes the look of the FG series.... time to see if I can do some convincing. Good luck with that tune.

Cheers.

Lol mate, good luck with the wife Blueprintme, the FG's do look nice and after reading some of the posts on here, I wish I had waited and saved a bit more but I'm impatient lol. My wife's put up with 5 years of "how nice does that car look" since I sold the ute lol. Good luck mate :)

My car normally sits on 13.5L/100 and that is start stop city driving. I drove the car out to millmerran the other week, 500ks h'way driving and averaged 9.7l/100 :beerchug:

Hey all.. atm my 05 BA MKII XR6T runs an average of about 14.9-15.3/100. gets around about 350km's a tank. I use 98 high octane, which brought down my fuel consumption from once being 17.9km/100. I have a full Xforce high flow cat system, and also a Front mount cooler tuned to 304.1 kw's. I was wandering what other forms of modifications could be undertaken to reduce or bring down my fuel usage? I drive her fairly hard now and then but also do the respectable thing by her and give it a break at times. Any information would be appreciated.

cheers

S.S

I have an '04 BA mkII with 90,000km's in standard form. I'm getting 350k's a tank with sensible driving to and from work on the M2. As above, what can I do to improve economy. For now I prefer minimal mods other than an air filter and tune. As I am from Jap car world I really dont know what to do. The only workshop I have spoken to so far is Intune in Castle Hill.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

Jason

To answer your question ice186...my FG XR6T with ZF sitting on 2000 rpm is doing 124/125 kph so I guess at 110 it would be around 1850 - 1900 ...they're an absolutely incredible box and so silky smooth. Running on 98 octane I get very low 9's on the trip from Brisbane to Glasshouse Mountains ...around town 12.3 - 12.4 l/100klm. It's fun driving around with the instantaneous consumption calc on .....it kinda drives you crazy watching how it varies! By my reckoning, optimal fuel consumption is at 105 - 115 kph....still close up to about 130 kph ....from there it seems to climb slowly....It's probably much safer to drive with the avg displayed not the instantaneous so you focus on the main job at hand ....hahaha.
