Fuel Consumption (merged topic)

I know this is a Ford forum and I don't want to do the ford\Expensive Daewoo thing, but I am looking at both models 2nd hand, either an auto XR6T or a manual VY SS, I know their performance is similar and would come down to the driver rather than the car in most situations.

I am more concerned about fuel consumption variations between the two cars, I know people don't buy high performance cars such as these two in question for fuel economy, however if wanting to use one as a daily driver like I do and don't want LPG then fuel consumption becomes an issue.

IMO the ford XR6T wins hands down not only as Australia's sexiest looking car ever but in many other areas, but I still love the sound of a V8 and have never owned one before, XR8's are out of my price range.

Also how do the XR6T's cope in really hot weather? I've heard all the familiar jokes about fords in hot weather (Henry's hot water service) (Blue oval and Red circle don't mix) etc but it is my understamding that from AU onwards there have been no over heating problems and the BA is even better from what I've heard.

The XR6T these days 2nd hand has to win Bang for your Bucks contest whilst the sparse SV8 is a similar price on the used car market the better appointed VY SS is a bit dearer than the XR6T especially with the 6 spped manual.

Are there any things to watch out for such as transmission problems with the XR6T?

mate I was in the same situation.

just bought the xr6t.

they cost the same second hand as the sv8

have more options than the sv8.

cheaper to insure than the sv8

cheaper and easier to mod than a sv8.

It'll be very biased on these forums.

Of course the turbo would be the better car. :surrenderwave:

Soo many more possibilites,great fun to drive and they look the part

both would be great cars and you will have fun either way you go

I was looking at VX SS's as well as XR6T's and the interior was the selling point for me

both are fast cars will a small amount of $$$ spent on them

Highway driving I get average down to 8L/100km

Driving round the city with the occasional hoon and its up to 16L/100km and im getting 260-280km per tank.

Im pretty sure I need another tune but havent had time to get it done.

ok I think the main question here is which one is gona get better fuel consumption? the XR6t has better fuel consumption stock compared to the VY SS...and with an edit the fuel consumption is even better! would sh*t all over the SS for performance too! dont get me wrong the SS is a nice car and with some mods they can get up and go but you will never be happy with the fuel consumption. XR6t is the way to go :pooh:

Even at your worst scenario of 16L/100 you would be getting over 400km to a tank!

And at (cough cough) 8L/100 on the highway, you could travel a distance of 850km without refuelling.

With mine I get between 12.5 and 13l/ 100km. That's mainly crawling around in city traffic and some hwy travel.

Interestingly, last Wednesday at Qld Raceway, I went through 3/4 of a tank of BP ultimate in 20 laps. (10 laps of clubman ciruit and 10 laps of the sprint circuit). Crap on fuel but worth every drop.

A bit OT but the F6, in standard trim with standard rubber, managed to beat lots of modified cars on semi slicks. I did the 3rd fastest time od the day (104.4) on a day when the track was wet/moist in places. The fastest time was a lotus elise (101.9). I was really amazed by the track performance of the F6.
