Guest Diablo Guests Posted 28/09/04 10:40 AM Share Posted 28/09/04 10:40 AM Hi, to all,I have been getting CRAP fuel consumption since I bought the car, took it to my local FORD dealer and as they tell me they have all the proper equipment to test if the car is running right - CRAP.I went and had a friend who is a wiz with Turbo cars, you name it he works on it, he did a test with me driving and we found a problem. When you accelerate the car gets fuel, when you back off the car should stop providing fuel – WRONG. The clowns at ford didn’t pick it up with their million dollar machine, So I would suggest that this is a common problem and that with the correct test - Pipe up the exhaust and a guy holding the computer who knows what he is doing, the fuel economy should improve.Car is booked in next Tuesday with ford, I’ll let you know what happens. My NA is sitting on about 12.6/100, which isnt all that fancy for an NA but since ive only done 1000 kms its all good. My old man NA which has done close to 40,000 is currently sitting on about 17/100, the car very rarely hits the highway. But the point is the longer you leave it the higher it gets and the harder it is to get it back down.Just to make sure my car is running in ok and nothing stupid is happening I calculated the average fuel to be 12.75 today after fueling up, maybe you should try it just to make sure theres nothing wrong with the computer (but by the sounds of the kms your getting out of each tank the computer is telling the truth). Write down the kms you got out of the tank and also how many litres you had to put in it to fill it up. Then calculate it by dividing the amount of litres it took by the amount of kms then times it by 100, that will give you your average. Trip computers are good but hardly serve a purpose excpet for the DTE function, the instant fuel thing really only sh*ts me off... As for your fuel consumption anything can happen, I think there was something going around about a fault with the VCT which was causing excessive fuel consumption. What happens if you only use the speedo reading between refills and then divide by the amount of litres to top up the tank ?It could be that the car is using fuel ok, but that the "dynamic" calculations are incorrect. I currently get approx 500k's to a tank around Sydney and would be pretty upset if it dropped down as far as yours....even with the occasional bit of stick. ( need I go on ? )Looking back through all my fuel useage calculations over the last 30,000k's, the figures constantly read between 12.xx & 13.xx for a full tank of petrol. Of course there was that one time that it was 15.40 but I beat the crap out of the wife after that...and it has not happened again.I would have to say my crowning glory was a nice 10.68 in December last year.....beautiful effort that....only 1 month old and the engine not even run in yet.Anyway, I digress. Ken and I once did face off around the back streets of Narellen but it was too close to call. The vehicles behind us kept blasting their horns so we let them past. Some of those truckies can get really aggro.
