manual, however little city driving, 100kms a day cruising at 110 on freeway

I have been getting about 13.5 to and from work. I usually give it a reasonable squirt at the lights. On a highway cycle I get 10 at 110kms. Turbos run econimical in the hwy cycle as it recirculates alot of the unused fuels.

These figures are from the trip computer but if you set up a spreadsheet and track actual consumption rates as I have done I have found that in my normal driving to and from work I am actually getting around 12.3 and about 9 on the hwy cycle. Fords figures arn't that far off for a manual using true consumption figures. With the spreadsheet I found the DTE to be highly innacurate sometimes 100km out depending on driving style for that tank.

I average about 13.5 l/100 in my auto T. I reckon I would do about 70/30 highway/city driving. Bloody good mileage for a car this heavy with this much grunt.

My average hasn't budged from 15.4l/100km for 000's of kms. And I'm an oldie and its HgAg! Hate to think what it would be like if I was a real leadfoot.

Still compared with the big costs, eg depreciation, fuel's not a major consideration as I don't do big mileages. And I saved a heap of dollars by not buying a BMW as the T is more fun at less than half the price.

My T's a manual and I am yet to have an average over 12.5L/100kms

Checked today and its indicating 11.8

I'm by no stretch of the imagination gentle on it either.

I do a 50/50 mix of city and freeway (which can be worse than the city at times)

I'd generally take it out to 3000 rpm on my changes. Having said that, it's periodicly bounced of the rev limiter too!

I generally fill up on premium one tank then switch to normal unleaded the next then back to premium etc.

The beast's got 6500 k's on it.

hrmmm....strange I have a auto T and mines showing 14.5L/100km running average. I drive it softly and on alot of highway. I guess with some you win, some you dont *shrug*

Still, its awesome economy for a car this big and heavy and with this much power, largely thanks I think, to the VCT exhuast cam which retards the timing on high vacumn cruise to raise fuel economy, (no need for a EGR valve like on many older cars) This was actually one of the main reasons that made me buy a BA turbo.

I cant wait to finish my home made OBD interface and hook it into my laptop to see what the computer is actually doing, and then maybe see where I am actually loosing out on fuel economy.

Sancho, I'd love to see the pics of your OBD interface. If it's what I'm thinking of, my friend has made one ofr his 200 SX and tells me that the BA's have the same interface as them. Apparently it's a little bit hush hush - as in Ford won't tell you anything about it. We hooked his up to his notebook in the car and you can do everything! It's amazing. You can shut down a cylinder at a time, drop or raise the revs, turn the thermo fans on and off, real time fuel map logging and all sorts of other crazy sh*t. We are going to be testing the 0 - 100k functions that the software has were it uses the ABS / wheel speed sensors to time the exact 0 - 100 times! He made his own interface using some CAT 5 cable and a special plug, what are you using?

P.S, we are averaging about 12.2 Lt / 100 kays, but get's up to as much as 15 - 16 when giving it the stick, but as low as 9's when driving on the highway.

I think that the manual turbo give's awesome economy for the size and power output. The XR8 (auto) is a shocker! I can barely get more than 450 kay's off a tank driving nicely, and it give's up to 18 lt / 100 kays if poking it, and only 15's for driving miss daisy...

Um, are you guys taking your readings from the AVG fuel consumption reading?

I get 12.5-12.8 around town and hwy I am not sure of as it only comes down on the avg fuel by .2 or.3 on a trip. So after a run on the hwy for an hour or so it may read 12.2.

If I go to instant consumption I am getting about 10.

I have had two manuals and now drive an auto, The manuals use much less fuel. On a freeeway trip, sitting on 110ks with no air the manuals averaged 10.5 ltr per 100k, the auto averages 11.8.

On a weekly average, with 80 percent highway/freeway the manuals used to give me 11.2, the auto gives 13.4.

Quite a noticeable difference. The next one will be another manual.
