Posted 25/03/08 12:34 PM Share Posted 25/03/08 12:34 PM Gilto - me too..... after much pontificating, just fitted Falken FK452's. ( http://www.falken.com.au/tyres/passenger-FK452.html )Compared to the standard Dunflops, these things are streets ahead. Wet, dry, hard cornering, break point.... magic difference. And quiet.... it's dead set amazing. Couldn't get hold of a half decent interested seller on the Marangoni's.... so settled for these. And $ ? Brilliant. And yes - they actually DO grip better off the line..... way way better. And at 300 Hardness will probably give me 30 - 35K in return. But hey - have no doubt that you will get marginally better tyre by paying 70% more. Let us know how they go....!!! And good luck knocking them down at least a hundred bucks a corner.

What I want is a great, not average allrounder. These things stick , wet , dry and corners, so I am told. and have read Thing is if I want to run the qtr I will buy some MTs. For the street day in, and day out what is the best option on all corners, not good at one thing and sh*t at another??I drive my car in a myriad of different conditions with 350 rwkw and I want tyres to suit. The cost is mine alone so cost is not the determining factor. If they are a sh*t tyre I am yet to read about itThanks for the feedback , but as said this is where my head is at and why......... cheersSorry if I sound abrupt , but I am trying not to waffle for the benefit of the members I failed I seeI had Yokahama Advans on 333 and couldn't fault them in any road or driving conditions, about 100% better then the Dunlops FPV put on, and when the 19s wear out on 284 I will be going back to Advans
Benny Member 1,869 Member For: 21y 5m 3d Gender: Male Location: Newcastle Posted 26/03/08 01:59 AM Share Posted 26/03/08 01:59 AM I think with most tyres around the $350/400 mark it's hard to see a big difference in performance over the more expensive brands on the street. There is a definate difference to the cheaper $250/300 options though. From my experiences with tyres you really understand the extra costs involved with the more expensive options when the road is wet or the car is being drivin to it's utmost limit around corners. The times you are glad you paid that extra money is when you accidently come into a corner well over cooked and still manage to come out the otherside.Other factors that govern paying that extra money for a good tyre is tread wear. The old S03's I use to use stuck like all hell but when it came to tyre life they were shocking, 18000k max.Just my opinion.

Their design has an almost slick type shoulder for excellent dry cornering grip, yet it has 4-5 solid grooves for water dispersion and resistance to aqua planing. They are a very soft compound. so expect around 20,000 km of average driving. I have 15k on mine, still excellent grip, just a little more road noise. When I first got mine, and with standard power - 180rwkw, they would not brake traction from a standing start in a straight line, Now I have 280rwkw, and they only brake traction in First - w.o.t, with a decent wiggle - spin up into second.Robin (xlnt6) has them on his 400rwkw beast and he has only had positive things to say about them. although no tire will hang on with this power level. Not to persuade you because I have them or anything, I couldnt give a rats.. I just hate to see people spend rediculous amounts of money for performance tires that may not perform any better than a $400 - $500 tire.Tires are certainly one of the best things you can spend money on to gain performance, but a large sedan with this sort of power level - $900 per corner is getting a bit silly especially when you might be replacing rears every 10,000km. Thought I might just ring Michelin HQto see if they could do something due to this inconvenience. They are trying to source from a Melbourne dealer and will ensure that I get the best possible deal. Failing this I will probably go for the Smokahama Advan 103sGuys thanks for the feedback, much appreciated
