3k To Spend

So I just got my brand new XR6t 6speed Manual... and I have approximately 3k to spend on it. Now I should say I want to more or less keep warrenty intact so mods will have to be things that can later be removed if I need warranty work done.

The 3k is including labour for most things, I could do intake and such but most would be done by the pros. So on that budget what should I be looking at, and what kind of power could I expect? (Im in NT so power will likely be lower due to the rediculas heat)

If you are in NT, a good intercooler would be a must - check the sites sponsors for that one.

An edit with custom tune would be a good idea too, seventytwo should be able to tell you the best place to get the car tuned in NT - in saying this though, most things will void your warranty, so think about what is important to you.

I was thinking intercooler... I dont like the look of the off centre stock cooler anyway. I wanted something simular to the cooler used in APS' stage 3 kit, that goes right across the front and has the cool side piping actually come up around the passenger side of the car unlike the stock cooler. But Assume that intercooler is going to be expensive. I also heard that you cant just change the cooler cause it can cause the boost to spike up and damage your motor/turbo? Any truth to this?

  • Still have a turbo, it's just on a diesel.

Welcome to the site Devo, unfortunately for us there is not a lot of support up here for modding.

Dave at Hi-tech can tune but he is usually booked solid

As for warranty and Mods, if you break something and Ford can prove it was due to modding then you are on your own.

I would suggest buying a flash tuner with some generic tunes loaded from one of our sponsors and spend the rest on some big rims.

pfft, don't worry about APS or the overboost, check out PlazmaMan, Rapid Systems, Process West or even AVO, they are all sponsors of the forum and will look after members.

Its been seen time and time again that intake mods don't effect the boost level of a car. Its usually the exhaust that causes overboost.

You will need a tune to take full advantage of the cooler anyway - so you should be right

If you are looking at buying an intercooler, I would suggest a stage 1 with a under battery pipe.

If you do fit one, you should also get a custom tune.
