Need Help In Choosing My Xr6

First of all let me say this is a great forum and hopefully this will be my first of many posts.

OK here is my problem (although I wish all my problems could be like this). My delema is that I have a choice of buying either a 2005 XR6 Turbo with 5 speed auto and non premium sound or a 2005 XR6 6 speed auto with premium sound but no turbo.

Both cars have around the same k's around 40,000 and both have been well looked after. They are both silver. I have to admit that I am leaning towards the turbo as I have taken this for a test drive and was blown away by the take off and power of this beastie (I also like the idea of being able to blow away my mate with his SS comodore :censored: )

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance yet to drive the XR6 6 speed auto but from all reports the 6 spead auto is awesome.

So if any of you guys can give me some help here I would really appreciate it. Would I be right to say that the Turbo will have better resale value than the standard XR6.

I live in Ballarat in Vic and can tell you that their seems to be quite a lot of XR6's here but I don't see many XR6 turbos.

Also I planned on adding premium sound to the turbo and guess it would be easier to do this and maybe add a 6 speed auto later on rather than try and add a turbo.

I plan on buying the car this week and want to take delivery by Saturday as I am taking 2 weeks anual leave next week and need my XR6 :shifty: What's your thoughts guys.

the 4spd auto will prohibit you from going all out mod wise but driven carefully you'll be good for 300 Rkw's , maybe even more. I haven't had any problems with mine to date although I did just change fluid and will put in trans cooler before summer if I keep this car.

Upgrading to 6spd auto is big bucks and heaps of work but it has been done.

You'll always regret not buying the turbo in my opinion - for what it's worth

the turbo would be 4 Speed auto, not 5 sp.

A good auto, but made to look very ordinary by the new 6 sp.

I would take the turbo 4sp over the N/A 6sp though.

Firstly it is either a 4 speed or 6Speed in the Autos.

Also we see MANY people here that bought a N/A and wished they had gotten the Turbo.

If you want power, then get the turbo. You may be able to get an ex cop 6sp auto turbo for the money you want to spend. They seem to be around the $30k mark now.

This is a good point. I was one of those people that bought an NA after thinking that I would be happy with it. After about 7 months of owning the NA I traded it in for a Turbo. I say go the turbo.

OK.....Well now I feel like a dickhead :spoton: I mean't to say 4 speed  Anyway I guessed most of you guys would pick the turbo and I think that's what I will be getting had already put deposit on the Turbo but would love the 6 speed tranny. Anyway does $25,000 on road for a 2005 40,000 km BA XR6T sound a good deal? I'm thinking it is as it still has that new smell and all the interior and exterior are like new not a mark on it.

The first thing I plan to do is get a XR8 bonnet and premium sound. I will have about $5000 to spend on the car before the missus puts the breaks on my spending. (bloody females) :SWMBO:

Any ideas on what I should do not interested in more power atm just want the car to be mine so also wanting to lower and add some bigger wheels.

OMG! I can't wait to get it at my age it's better than sex with viagra. :aaggl:

The 4 speed auto is still a good auto, its just that the 6 speed is such a standout. Both should have tranny coolers fitted if you are going to mod or drive hard.

The 4 speed requires work if you are going to run higher than stock power, but ZF is a lot more expense if you break one.

As for NA vs Turbo, I would say go the turbo, but Insurance may be a problem depending on your age and fuel prices as turbo's a thirsty when it come to fuel.

If you are going down the Mod road go the turbo as they are a lot easier to get power out of than the NA. (Bang for your Buck)

Definately go the Turbo. You will kick yourself in the head (if you're flexable enough) and then after that you'll do everything you can to sell the N/A and get a turbo...

You won't regret it.

Here's some of the compressor housing on my turbo to tempt you lol

Are you looking at spending $25K then another $5K putting on a Boss bonnet and premium sound???

Have a look at something like this. as long as you dont give it a super hard time or heavily modify it the 4sp auto will be fine.

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/priva...N&Make=FORD

Maybe wait until the new FG's come out and you will find more and more BA/BF's start becoming available in the cheaper price range.
