Hi all,

I am looking to import some Inline Hockey Gear for my brother & I, I have worked out the shipping costs & as you know with the dollar so high we are saving atleast 50% on buying the gear in Australia but.....

Does any one know if I will have to pay any import tax or stamp duties??? if so how can I check how much I will need to pay e.g. Government web sites.

Regards

I don't think you will incur any tax if it is just a small amount of gear - like for two people.

I haven't seen any thing like that on bits and pieces from the states when buying pistons or plenums and the like for my mates skyline

You could be up for 10% import Duty and the 10% GST, but it depends on how much stuff there is and how much it is worth.

If it is a "Gift" or for personal use under $500 you should be ok.

How will they be able to tell if its a gift??

Also, it will be over the $500 mark. The gear wont actually weight much but would have to come in a large box or even multipal boxes.

On the customs declaration it will ask the reason for the importation.

Gift, Sample or warranty replacement will usually see it through. There will also be a declared value, that will say how much it is worth.

They are not fools and if you have 10 of everything they will assume it is for resale and whack you. Having it in several boxes is also not a good idea as it could look like a commercial quantity.
