Correction on the above calculated square inches. Note no reference is made for wall thickness of the tubing which does put a twin 2 1/4" closer in overall size/flow to a single 3'

Twin 2 1/4" 7.95

Twin 2 1/2" 9.81

Single 3" 7.06

Single 3 1/2" 9.62

Single 4" 12.56

Exactly what I was going to say, also when you take into account the fact that the flow at the point of splitting into two pipes would cause some turbulance resulting in a reduction in flow, also that the straight through mufflers on the 3" will out flow the standard mufflers, I think the 3" single will easily outflow the stock system and sound a heap better too.

Having said that I will be going for a single 3.5" system for mine, rather than a twin 2.5".

bang bang double hit iam asking the same q for my xr6t was in autobarn and there is a spanky new 3inch stainless autotechnica cat bak system for 699.00 and the wallet came out faster than a fat kid on a choccy but then brain worked and I joined up on this forum just to ask this q I want to make 300rwkw no more will this do the job or am I going to be hacking it to pieces chasing my goal :stickpoke:
