Although it may require some extra plumbing, I would rather have absolute boost control and remove a heat path from the turbine housing than have all these boost management problems and worry about damaging the engine. Seems Garrett is still being a cheapskate by not designing a better system over the past twenty years or so. What is the added risk to housing cracks from removing extra metal from the highest heat path area of the housing?
