I have had it happen to me a couple of times, it either just stalls or it splutters when you put your foot on the gas then all of a sudden will work fine again. Try this, when the car is off, turn the key to on but dont start the car, turn it to off again, then push the accelerator to the floor and hold it, now try and start the car with the your foot still on the accelerator, the car will kick over but wont start do this for about 10 seconds then turn the key to off again. now just start the car like normal. It will reset the TPS, my mate who is a mechanic for ford told me to do this. I do it about once a month and have never had it happen to me since.

I think that actually resets the cam phase sensors or something like that....so if it works for you, you may have a different problem.

Either way though if solves your problem then that's all that matters I guess :sofa:

I asked the ford service guy about this and he said it doesn't reset your TPS but it did do something else probably what tabs described

Tow truck is coming this morning to take it to ford!

To think I bought a near new car so I could shelve all the tow truck numbers!

Brisbane tow trucks would have gone out of business since my mazda was off the road! but alas the ford will keep them in business!

will post ford dignosis when known

Regards,

Ryan.

Not good Ryan. Keep us up to speed with it mate.

the quick update ford want 600 bucks for the tps sensor and that's what the problem was

I told him to go back and check again because I was quoted 168 for the part the day before when I rang spares

Me's thinks they f%&^#d it removing it and now need to replace the throttle body because they don't want to retap out the screws because they cross thread easily

as always watch this space

Ryan.(one very pissed off ford owner)

I read somewhere it is easy to change the only thing is when rescrewing the new TPS it is very easy to strip the threads in the plastic, hence why ford probably charge for the throttle body as well

two screws I think but don't quote me on that

BTW Service got back to me (I rung them) They have agreed that I was correct and are putting the tps only in tommorow to make sure everything works as it should.

Ryno.

The tps is very easy to replace. You will strip/break the screw if you do it when the car is cold. If you get the motor nice and warm it will help soften the loctite. Alternativly you can warm the area around the screws on the throttle body with a small heating torch or gas ignitor and this will have the same effect.

Loctite also make a releasing agent that you can spray on the threads and it will wick in and breakdown the bond between the screw and the loctite. This is pretty expensive stuff tho.

I dont know if the pcm self calibrates on startup or you have to get the tps calibrated by your friendly dealer once it been replaced.

cheers

Luke
