I have one fitted now as I am a believer in that if you can relieve pressure before it stalls the turbo at closed throttle you can keep the turbine spooling and require less effort to spool up again and may even aid exhaust scavenging. Turn a bicycle up side down and spin the front wheel with the palm of your hand as fast as you can, it wont take much once its already going. Then pull the brake and get it going again, that takes more effort and longer to do.. that's my theory..what do others think.
seventytwo Still have a turbo, it's just on a diesel. I run one as I believe it reduces compressor surge and protects the turbo.

I liked the sound though as with the factory air box it wasn't very loud but still sounded nice. But the car took noticeably longer to spool up after every gear change. But why listen to us, lift your bonet, take the vacuum hose off the BOV and stick a screw in to the hose, this way the BOV will stay closed and you can drive for a day or few and see if you like it or not, then make your decision. I explained that the blow off valve was necessary to stop back spin on the turbo... He believe me and hasnt said a word since... crazy old men and their MG waxing ways... volvos even... Either way its my car....I recon it sounds cool.. theres a point... I've got a stealth FX... which is adjustable,.. technically closing it is like having no BOV at all... but I thought the only reason for doing that would be to sneak past some cops...In theory if you didnt snap the throttle shut at high revs youd avoid excess pressure... but that's only in an auto... in a manual its unavoidable..excuse my ramblings.. and correct me if im wrong

It wasnt until my bov crapped itself few weeks ago I stopped using one. Me and a mate blocked it all up, blocked vac hose and that's it. I have since purchased an aftermarket bov and pipe because it was the bargain of the year but that doesnt mean I believe I need one.On turbos the size of these ones we have, I found it very hard to believe that not using a bov is going to damage it. So when it comes down to it, I truly believe if you just want the piece of mind, use a bov, if you dont think its going to damage the turbo, dont use one.
