V8 Regrets

gday all, im a new member here and was after some advice from those who obviously love their turbo's. I currently drive an XR8 ute and was seriously considering trading on a nice XR6T I spotted. Now I know that the turbo's are a pretty special car, hence the reason I for the dillema. Have any of you owned a BOSS, traded on a turbo and then regretted the decision. Obviously if your on this forum, you hold the turbo's high and so do I, but I think I'd be heartbroken if I got rid of my ute and then thought "bugger".

Thanks for your help

Paul

Nothing's gonna substitute for that V8 sound mate, but if it's plenty of power at relatively affordable prices that you're after, then the turbos are the way to go. Getting 300+rwkw is commonplace these days and pretty cheap to do. :crybaby:

But if you're super keen on that magic BOSS note and still want serious power, a few of the guys here are getting incredible results out of supercharging their V8s - saleen and DBOSS are two guys that spring to mind. I think saleen's pushing out around 365rwkw and DBOSS is (well over?) the 400rwkw mark! Mind you, he's had a full engine rebuild and spent big $$, but what a result! :msm:

After 5.1/2 years I'm heading the other way but only for the change....It's my decision and nobody else will sway my decision.....

You wont regret it if YOU do make the decision to buy one there a great bit of kit.

They feel very different mate, but you will not regret a turbo. If you went to a small engined turbo you might, but the sound and thrill a turbo 6 provides is hard to match.

My father drove big thumping V8's all through my childhood, and still does. The day I picked up the phoon I drove to his place and let him have a drive, and he has converted!

When I was younger, I wanted a V8, but as soon as I had a ride to and from the Calder drags one Friday night in 2004 in Pete Luxon's silver XR6T test mule, I never wanted anything else (apart from a GT-R) but the point is, f*ckin go for it and don't look back!

Boost, The replacement for displacement :buttrock: And a sh*te load cheaper to get good power, the only thing the Boss has is the V8 Rumble.

But I'd much rather my car to sound like a Jet then a V8

Hope you don't mind Bcl, but I love your car mate.

thanks fellas, its good to see a bunch of people that love their cars as much as you do. think the general consensus is that compared to the BOSS, with the exception of the rumble, there wont be too much to regret. the car in question is an 06 with just under 15k on the clock in ego. looks pretty clean, gonna try for a test tomorrow. anyone point me in the direction or got any pics of this colour on cars that arent stock, eg with different wheels, cleaned and polished etc.

could be getting closer to a T by the minute

My mate is in love with V8's and always wanted one... Why I dont know... He traded his TRX for a wh stato 5.7 and 6 months later its still stock, doesnt sound like a v8 and the thing is so heavy it doesnt go like a v8... Why has he always wanted a v8 you might ask? Cause "Its a V8" But I always manage to scare him in "my 6 cylinder"

In comparison to allot of vehicles the T is rather sedate. In that the power delivery is very linear and you don’t often get that neck-jerking-kidneys-to-the-seat kind of feeling that you’d expect. But looking at the cars disappearing in the rear-vision mirror will bring a stupid grin to your face.

I’d definitely recommend it as I feel the XR8 is a bit of a slug in comparison, but like others mentioned it’s a very subjective thing.

Have you had a chance for a decent drive in a T? If not then I’d definitely recommend that first. Throw up your location and there’s bound to be a nut from here willing to take you for a spin. :gfight:

I'm in Nowra mate. Other question for you all, they're after $34990 for it, 15000K, May 06, man, stock interior, polished intercooler?(havent asked details about mods yet). From what you have seen or valued does this sound like a decent price? Alreadychecked redbook etc, but they are usually a bit off current values.

oh, and never driven or been in a T, going to test drive tomoz.

I driven a BA MK1 XR8 at the race experience thingo, got back in my car and I swear on the way home my stock T still felt quicker then the stripped out V8.

Also raced a MK2 BA XR8 in my na supra and we were still side by side at 100kmph he wasn't too happy. :gfight:

If you wanna go fast the T is the car to get, the V8's sound horn but that's about it.
