These days, religion for the hierachy is just big business.

An old preacher guy came to my door one time and after about an hour (he was a nice 'ol bloke) I put something to him.

I said, say you had a time machine and you went back to the very year jesus was (SUPPOSEDLY) at his peak with the healing and the feeding 1000's with a peice of bread and stuff.

He said that there is no such thing as a time machine and I said....If there is faith that Moses parted the oceans with nothing more than raising his arms, surely a time machine is not THAT unreasonable. He agreed.

You start asking around about jesus. Who and where is he and everyone is like WTF are you on about. Born without a natural father? You mad!!! You learn that it is all wrong based on present day beliefs.

Before they string you up for being insane......(BANG).....you're standing in front of the pope.

What do you say to him.....truth or lie.

He said lie...

I said that is my point. It has nothing to do with faith now. It is just business.

I don't think I converted him back to an Athiest, but it did give him MY prospective.

I think there are bigger evils in the world than a story (true or not) about a dude who basically said,

"be nice to each other" Does the truth of the bible really matter one way or the other?

It's the message that counts, not who said it or when.

Can't agree with you more about today's religion. Corruption and greed began to set in more than 1700 years ago. And I don't think it was Moses who actually parted the Red Sea. Not by his own power anyway. Only someone with the know how and control over the laws of physics, nature, mathematics etc could do something like that don't you think? And faith, in anything, should not be baseless to oneself. I like this definition. "Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld."

And good on you for speaking your mind I reckon. As Dags said back there somewhere, fear is a tool of control. So we all should know why we believe what we believe.

One morning you walk out the front of your house and on the ground in front of you is some timber, some nails, some glue and a hammer. You go about you daily duties not concerned with it. The next morning you wake to find the timber, nails, glue and hammer have somehow gotten together and managed to form themselves into a letter box. That's right, no one made the letter box for you, there was no designer, no builder not even a slack-jawed apprentice to be seen. All by itself the material managed to come together to create the letter box. Believe it?

If this occured with a truck load of evidence yes I would believe it, but it hasn't so I dont,unlike some who are happy to belive a bunch of Bronze Age myths without any evidence to support them.
