I have found a 2004 BA xr6t that I am pretty sure I want to buy. Was just wondering, should I save my money and look out for a Mk2. I know from reading past posts, that the Mk2 came with LPG rods.

I am looking to mod car straight away to 250rkw, then to 290-300rkw.

I am concerned about the springs and rods (more so).

How much can they handle?

To achieive the above results, I will be getting intercooler kit, injectors etc so less stress. I can not afford BF so BA mk2 is stretching my limits.

Will a BA mk1 be sufficient?

Also, since I am asking, how much would rods cost to put in. There are a set of atomics on ebay for 900.

Thanks in advance,

Jack

If you are looking at an auto there is not much difference between the BA MKi and MKii. Where as the BA MKii manual is a lot better box.

Stronger rods where only added after the BF MKii but late BA MKii's got better valve springs.

It is auto I am talking about.

I was under the impression that BA mk2 had stronger LPG edition rods?

In regards to valve springs I will get atomic or nizpro.

Its just the Conrods that are really concerning me.

Can anyone shed light on the rods?

Hello

Why don't you try and find a BA turbo that has been modded. You can find ones that have valve springs, exhaust, edit etc.

You just need to get it checked out and make sure it's in good condition. Does it have to be Auto?

If your going to 300rwkw the rods should be fine as long as it's tuned properly and with as little boost needed to get your figures. If your that concerned I'd be going for a cheeper BA Mk1 and then put bigger rods in it later down the track if need be.

the BA MKii's had the LPG rods which were not fantastic but stronger than the original mk1 rods. personally I own a mk1 and only bought it because it was a mate's dad but if I was in the market I would definately be stretching to the mkii.

better yet if you wait till mid year BF's should drop in value as the FG falcon is released. FPV dealerships are already trying to get rid of brand new tornado's and typhoons for sub $50k drive away so you should find a cheap 6T easy enough.
