I can't wait for the dry season Darwin definitely limits how much experience Dave can have at tuning XR6T's.. I'm not willing to take the risk even though he's been to the CAPA courses etc. I'm still hoping to find a tuner who is willing to come up to tune half a dozen cars even if it costs $1500/car its cheaper than taking my car down to C&V.TOM1111: I'm pretty sure it was overboosting on the stock tune as well. seventytwo was there .. there was an unusual spike on all tunes including the standard one, in the middle of the rev range.I might put it on the dyno again.. I expect the boost curves will be flatter Edited 08/03/08 11:15 AM by adamw

It was either one of two things that resolved it.1) The boost solenoid maintenance shown here - http://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/index.ph...1329&st=162 . I am leaning towards this because when the car was on the dyno I did notice that, for example, the 10psi tune spiked to about 12-13psi before holding 10psi. I put it down to the crappy wastegates on these cars, but I wonder if it was overboosting and pinging as a result because the boost solenoid was sticking open.2) Disconnecting the battery for an hour. Thanks everyone for your tips. Car goes hard now and boost appears to be much more linear - it just feels like massive torque all the way to the redline. Another reason I think it was the boost control solenoid ...good to see problem fixed Adam.apparantly if you disconnect battery as you have then drive hard for 5 minutes then computer has a memory to perform accordingly to your driving style as for actuator I had an adverse effect where boost would go from 10 to 5, problem fixed with stronger actuator
adamw Member 143 Member For: 20y 5m 30d Location: Darwin Posted 19/03/08 11:03 AM Author Share Posted 19/03/08 11:03 AM so it has started pinging again, which is very disappointing.it just started today, so it lasted 11 days. this makes me suspect I was wrong about it being 1) the boost solenoid.I'm going to disconnect the battery again and see if it corrects itself. if it does, at least I have something I can talk to ford about.. although I'm not sure what they can do about it.. replace ECU? All it will take is for them put this thing on the computer and work out that it has been flashed and it is all over for you. That is the harsh reality. adamw Member 143 Member For: 20y 5m 30d Location: Darwin Posted 20/03/08 02:39 AM Author Share Posted 20/03/08 02:39 AM I understand that, and as I have said it also happens on the stock tune. The car is not modified apart from having been flashed and then returned to the stock tune. They have already run computer diagnostics on it (which is about all they did to try and diagnose this). There were no error codes and they did stuff all else to diagnose it, it was me who had to go changing the plugs, filter, checking fuel pressure etc.Either way, if disconnecting the battery fixes the problem again for a period, then the ECU is learning while I'm driving it and adjusting something incorrectly.AdamI wouldn't be pushing FORD too hard - after all you have changed the factory tune and messed with the ECU by flashing the car.Technically you have: no engine warranty, no gearbox warranty, no diff warranty, and certainly no ECU warranty. It was running fine on the 8psi tune for some time, and then started pinging under full throttle acceleration between 3500 and 5500rpm. It is very brief and far from violent (just sounds like a little "tink" and then goes away) but is reproducible in most situations. I don't believe it is related to the tune as I checked the tune on a dyno and AFRs were safe, and it still happens on the factory tune as well.I always run PULP (95 ron) but have tried a few tanks of Ultimate and it makes no difference whatsoever. I have asked Ford to look at it and they came back with the helpful conclusion 'try filling up on PULP instead of ULP' after I had already informed them I always run PULP minimum. So where can I start looking? This weekend I was going to change the plugs, gap them to 0.8mm (gap is not the cause - happens on the factory tune), change the fuel filter, and install the lower temp thermostat that C&V provided.Adamyou should just check your afrs againe ,just tto make sure you havent got a sad fuel pump ..mine was doing the same thing on a tune out of the box ,then I went and got a custom tune ,and it was still doing it .then we worked out I had a sad fuel pump ,done some mods to the pump ,and hasnt missed a bet since ...you could try you fuel filter as well ..
