After my dreams of buying an R33 GT-R were bought to an abrupt halt as NO ONE would give me finance for it, I went and test drove a VE GTS.

It was a bit of a thrill, coz dad's Clubsport alway bought a smile to my face with sheer low down torque, but the interior and dash didn't do it for me and they didn't have a manual on site for me to drive. I was too used to the XR6 I was driving at the time, and I remember saying to the little sh*t that sold me the XR6 in 2005 that 'I'll be back in 12 months for a turbo.' I had to rub it in his face as he never believed me and always gave me sh*t about it when I rocked up for a service.

So when I rocked up after driving the GTS I thought, f*ck this, if I'm seriously considering an HSV, why don't I look at a typhoon.

A turbo 6 with the same torque as a GTS but lighter? For as little as $1600 I can have 300rwkw? f*ck YEAH! SOLD!

EDIT: This confused me also. (Taken from the website)

HSV GTS PERFORMANCE

Acceleration 0-100kmh Manual - 4.96 sec

Acceleration 0-100kmh Auto - 5.05 sec

Aren't autos faster in a straight line?

No, they're not. Plus the Falcon and Dunnydore manuals are pretty much the same boxes anyway.

what are you on about dude

the 4 speeds hold all the xr6T 1/4 mile records so there even quicker then your fancy 6 speed

in saying that the 4 speed is definately not a better box

the 6spd auto in the VE's are actually pretty crap when driven back to back with the ZF, so it wouldn't surprise me.

you also have to remember that the auto is quicker in the T because it keeps the tubo on boost, something you don't have to worry about in the V8

Yeah that was my thoughts of the VZ's, I was seriously considering buying one............Before the test drive...

Same here... Was a die hard Expensive Daewoo fan, untill I got off my P's and decided to go for a V8 VYSS.... Took one for a spin and basically I didnt know I was driving a V8. It was gutless untill giving it WOT and didnt even sound anywhere near like a V8..

Took the T for a spin.. instant smile on the face at 2000rpm till wherever the red line is. Put a deposit that day.. Dont even need WOT anymore just torque..

Holdens and HSV's quoted figures are always good for a laugh, cause no one can get anywhere near them in the real world. They must do the times downhill with a tailwind.

Remember when HSV said that any journo who could match their times in a GTS would be given a bottle of Grange Hermitage. Its still there now and I'm sure it will still be there in 20 years time covered in dust because the times are bullsh*t.
