New R Spec Clutch Slip

but if you do that, they will say you dump it in-gear and that's probably why the clutch is slipping - there goes your warranty claim...

Nah I was saying do it by yourself first. The Ford mech will do the same thing when he tests it.

If it doesn't slip when you do this test yourself first, then when you take it in and they do it and it doesn't slip doing this, they will just tell you were dreaming...

Make sure under the most extreme stress (that test) it slips, otherwise you'll have trouble proving it.

Rob, it's an AP Racing twin Plate clutch, it can put up with a lot of power! There's no reason to waste money on upgrading if you only want 250 to 290rwkw like you said.

Get Ford to fix/ replace the clutch plate, especially if the engine is still standard like you said.

Chances are there's something that's not aligned properly, and every time you put a new plate in there, it'll chew itself up.

Take it to Ford asap. As much as they are useless with everything else, principal says that clutch warranties at 6500kms must get fixed!

EDIT: Also, the only way they can prove it's driver fault is if your brand new SP MAXX's are slashed at the rear, or if there's rubber stuck under the rear guards and you've gone out and bought new tyres, or if there's a huge amount of clutch sitting around the flywheel and plate area. I'm pretty sure that's all they can look for.

I find it hard to believe that an AP racing clutch is failing at stock power levels after only 6500kms unless a component is faulty or not fitted correctly :pinch:

The amount of people on here pushing decent power through these things with standard plates (including myself) is indicative that they can handle power/torque increase even when punished! I'd definitely be going to ford and asking to have it looked at... The worst that can happen is they'll knock back your warranty claim and you'll be in the same position you're in now :kissmy:

Yeah, I will be giving it some more testing soon.........if its slipping I will go to Ford. As you say I expect that it could even be an adjustment issue?

you have a faulty unit, its warranty. theres no way an ap clutch would slip with stock power, so you have a faulty one.

if they deny, push harder and write a complaint to ford etc. you shouldnt have any probs though theyre pretty good to fpv owners...

You are correct Groper. I ran 300rwkw through mine and never had a problem Rob E take it back to ford and they should just do it with complaint or hinderance, especially if it's stock. It's no good bleating aboiut the dealer or thinking they won't do it because they make money from the work, all they need is an FPV approval. You should ne 100% fine on a stock car.

ok lads. here is the update.

I think I might have jumped the gun - looks like I have won wooduck of the week.

I tried the R SPEC Clutch testing technique (patent pending). 3rd Gear, 80kmh, give it 5 thou.....engage clutch.

No slip. Car steps half a foot sideways (wet road).

Much relief.

The only thing I can think of is that I have slipped the clutch a bit on that particular change owing to not being able to feel the friction point.

ok, may not be out of the woods yet.........could be a pressure plate problem. Today a few times I noticed a clicking sound and could feel a click about half way through the clutch travel...

just noticed some clutch slip in 3rd gear. Gear was fully engaged and it flared a couple of hundred rpm when I gave it full throttle then I got a slight whiff of the clutch…….the car only has 6500klms on it….power wise car is completely stock, has not even been edited yet. This is bloody ordinary! Whats the chances gof getting this sorted under warranty?

Very strange,my f6 held out till 330 rwkw.Go in & demand a new one & hope for the best because they cost a fortune.GOOD LUCK BB.
