ok that didnt work but I do remember it dieing slow, what I mean is, it would only warm up to 55'C when normally it would be up to about 90'C while driving to work.

so Im starting to wonder if the sensor is gone, will find a price at autobarn or something and give it another go after the car cools down. better get some more oil just in case it needs a top up.

if that doesnt work then Im guessing the gauge is farked.

maybe I wasn't clear. I had to ADD an extra wire to properly earth the sandwhich block. so mine has the wire from the sensor to the gauge, and then because it wasn't earthing through the sandwhich block bolt, I added another wire from the sandwhich block to the chassis.

ok I have now added a new earth wire (1.5mm) from the sandwich plate via the handy screw attachd to it and one of my crimping lugs to the chasis. continuity test from the sandwich plate to random parts of the chasis with a reading of 0.7ohms - 0.9ohms

is there anything else I could be missing???

did you use thread sealant? I found I didn't need to, but if you did then you will have to earth the sensor itself too. you will notice there is an isolator ring separating the terminal and sensor part of the sender unit.

test continuity between chassis and the part of the sender which goes into the sandwich plate I.e not the terminal which the sender wire connects to.

Hi no thread used, will check earth continuity of sender tomorrow.

didnt check if the sender was facing upwards (should it be???), it was working for the first 2 years I owned it so yeah.

anyways one thing at a time aye :beerchug:

I know it took a while but I tested earth continuity of the sensor and got direct contact. tested earth continuity of terminal with no contact.

thought id double check continuity of acc, power and earth as well all ok.

any other ideas what am I looking for???

umm, last idea is to check the actual sensor is working.

pull it out and measure resistance between 'thread' and terminal. then chuck it in a pan of hot water, pull it out and measure it again and the resistance (ohms) should have gone down.

I have a spare autometer sender you can have for $10 if you need it.

ok so far ive tested the thread to the terminal in hot water with 16k ohms,

tested it cold @ 76.4k ohms

Oil Temperature Sensor

Description

High quality, plastic-sheathed "NTC" type oil temperature sensor. In a brass housing, manufactured by Bosch. Overall length of 57mm, and a fitting thread of M12 x 1.5mm pitch. Temperature range of -40°C to 150°C. The resistance of the sensor changes with temperature. For direct connection to the DL1 a "pull up resistor" is required. If the sensor is ordered with a cable, this resistor is already included and will be ready for immediate use with the DL1 or DL2.

I think mine is farked. are you near logan at all?? if not ill check at autobarn in the morn. but what should the resistance be for these xforce gauges???
