Racq came and said it was not getting any fuel and must be the fuel pump. He hopped under neath and with a rubber hammer hit the fuel tank, away it went and I made it home. The next morning still furious, hopped underneath the car and realised the wiring harness for the fuel pump had snapped the clip off and was supporting its own weight (half unplugging it self). Even to this day the thing still plays up, coughing and spluttering (not nearly as much). But when it does I just wiggle it and its fine, no probs, get them to check it out. Apparently Ford has known about this problem with fuel pumps in BFMKII T's and F6's overheating and shutting down. When the pumps get hot, they progressively lose power, then they just shut down. After a rest and cooling down they start again (which explains what I experienced), but only for a while until they overheat again. So they've upgraded the pumps, and are replacing under warranty when it happens on these cars. The cops first noticed it, they've had a lot changed over. It has been happening since mid last year. Now theres a shortage of new fuel pumps - they only had one in the country which came down from Bris on Wed for my car. They said it's not a recall, but know it's a problem.Haven't been able to really test the new one since Wed, as it's been raining - I head up to Armidale in the morning, I guess I'll find out then. Fuel efficiencys better too the range only read 490 on a full tank last week, now showing 510, and sits easy on 7.5L/100km on 100km/h cruise on flat roads. The pumps are a new batch now - anyone having any concers should get it changed, as it can happen anywhere anytime when it gets hot (unless of course you're already kitted out with a T-REX)I tested a 0-100 - easy 5.1sec on 3 runs.Looking forward to some track time. It hadn't happened all week since the new pump, even with some long 3-6 hr deives (albeit at 23-27deg outside temps). It Didn't happen at 6am when it was 14deg outside, up the tablelands, not a blip. I thought - great problem solved. But then in tamworth later that day, when it was 32deg, just cruising through town, I put my foot down and splutter, pop, lost power and cant go over 3000rpm.limped to servo and let it cool down for 1/2 hr. Filled it up and took off, no noticeable problems!Drove home (4hr drive) taking it easy most of the way, thought I'd test it again, hammered it-not a problem, drove it hard up to 6000rpm, and got it home ok.So, seems like another dodgy fuel pump? Or is it they just cant cope with 30deg+ temps (find that hard to swallow). Or both.I also spoke to Ford about fuel, I had been running United 98 Octane with 10%ethanol - they think the Ethanol may not keep the fuel as cool in hot weather as say BP ultimate?? Why would this have any impact on the fuel pump?? I know fuel has a cooling effect in the combustion chamber, but in the pump? They did say they had to do two fuel pumps on an orange XR6T police chaser out of Bueladelah... So back to Ford Mon morn... If that fails, I'll be demanding they buy an aftermarket. And then if it's not the pump...buggered if I know. There have not been any "error scripts" come up on the computer, so it seems like an issue somewhere in the fuel line - maybe the injectors when it gets too hot??
