see and who said u dont learn something new every day haha .... will just forget I ever mentioned that will be looking in the engine bay next time before I open my mouth hahaha :P my bad .

Situation getting worse.

Been away all week and had left my car with the Ford dealer near my home (Also an FPV dealer) for them to look into it. This is the same place that changed the fuel pump couple of weeks ago.

They had the car a whole week and they cant find the problem, Nothing wrong they say! Or if there is something wrong (which there F***king is) they can't trace it. :blink::nono:

They ran it idling for hrs then drove it hard and couldn't fault it, no splutters no shut down, no power loss and no limp mode, and maintained fuel pressure the whole time. And used 1/2 a tank of fuel and left it empty to my wife who picked it up to fill it up!

last time I drove it, in 30deg heat after several hrs of driving, and put my foot down, it spluttered, popped, lost boost, lost all power and shut down! But they can't fault it.

It drives normal when cold, or if I dont accellerate hard and drive it like nanna, then after a long trip or hot conditions, and I give it some the problems come back - but they can't replicate it.

So they hand it back to me and say - Good luck! This is the service place nearest to where I live, so bugger me if I'm ever going back there!

So I have no idea what's still wrong, the car is still doing the same S**t when it last broke down, even with the new Fuel Pump they put in last time and I'm back to square 1. :nono:

I'm taking it back to the dealer I bought it from (300kms away) and they are going to look into it.

I can only hope they will find the problem.

I can't rely on a car that could break down on me at any time when I work in the medical business, drive the distances I do and drive the (mountain) challenging roads I drive, which could leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere at any time.

So taking it to the Selling dealer on Mon, and they have 6hrs to look into it while I work there, and then I have to drive 3hrs back to my next point of business for tues am. If they can find the fault and fix it - great!

If they cant fix it and it keeps heppening - it's then going to be an issue between Ford and a Lawyer.

This exact same thing happend to me yesterday... In Melb yesterday it was around 40deg. I was driving for about 3hrs straight alot of it stop start..

Anyway I have a walbro intank and it was whining like never before, it was really loud.. On the way home I was in a closing lane and needed to speed up to overtake a car and get into the right lane, was in manual mode, changed into second, continued to accelerate and the car just didnt want to 'go' it popped, spluttered, but didnt shut down at least...

Now I know what happened, but if people are having this problem with stock pumps surely my walbro shouldnt do this? Maybe it was just too hot even for the walbro??

I was at 1/2 tank of BP ultimate...

BTW these cars feel like crap in hot weather, utter crap, my wog cooler doesnt help much at all though... Last night on the hwy though, everything back to normal...

Would an intercooler water spray kit help these things with heat issues? Obviously with the setup of the crossover etc the heat of the air gets very hot, even with the intercooler. I've never seen something so stupid as to run intercooled air BACK over the engine. Maybe water spray could cool it down a little more than the stockish coolers?

I used to see it all the time when I buddied around with WRX and owners...

Guys thanks for the comments, some good thoughts, I agree it seems to be heat related, and I am really driving this car in extreme conditions. I will still wait to see what the other dealer can find before modding it, last thing I want is to lose Warranty. Maybe just a bigger intercoller may be the go.

There is also the issue of the fuel running hot in the pipes near the engine too - then with hot conditions, and driving hard under heavy load up hills for hours maybe adding to the problem. So may have been a bad fuel pump in the first place, with some issues of heated fuel containing ethanol contributing to it, then after the new pump put in, there was still some ethanol fuel lingering causing the prob last week, now it's been running on 98 without ethanol for the last week.

So today, I drove the car for a good 4hr stretch, put it thru all conditions, heat (got up to 31deg), hillclimbs, long straights, stops starts, and really hammered it under load, up long hills and bends and straights and gear braked, then full throttle, 0-100 starts flat out - not a peep! It performed like an absoluter stormer and never missed a beat.

It's certainly doin my head in.

I'm still going to let them go over it again Mon, and by the time I get it there it'll be after a 3hr drive, so any tests they do should be in the right conditions rather than just letting it idle for hrs.

I'll keep you posted.

I have a 3 week old RSpec and guess what, when my wife was driving on the Eastern Freeway the the car spluttered and died in the arse. Today is about 40 deg and it was towed to a our Ford Dealer to a looking over just as they closed.

The service guys took it for a drive and it didn't play up at all. Run perfectly.

I ask the guy about yours and he didn't know of any fuel pump problems in the model, or so he said.

In the workshop and will make contact with him. My wife is s medical rep and she cannot afford the car F**king up. Just sold a 2 year old Beemer as it was giving us problems and want to get rid of it before it was going to cost me. I hope I don't have to do the same thing.

Will keep you posted about they say to me tomorrow !!!

Sounds exactly the same prob. It is definitely heat related and pump related.

Ford do have a pump batch issue - it's been confirmed by 2 dealers now in all BFII XR6T and F6 cars. It is triggered by high ambient temps (30+) and when the car runs for a few hrs, the pumps overheat and shut down, car goes into limp mode. The cops have had it happening all over the place - they chase a car, then stop, leave it idle and it runs rough, then shuts down. A lot of cars have had new pumps put in with a new batch and they have a backorder on pumps for this very reason.

Once they cool down for 10-15 mins or more, and you finally get it to the dealer, they run fine and then the dealer says - no fault found!

But I had a dealer drive it with me when it first happened, before they changed the pump, and after 30 mins of cooling down, then 30 mins of driving hard in the heat again, it happened to him - so that's when they decided to change the pump. I too am in the medical business and it's critical my car does not leave me stranded - so I assured them I would persue it if not fixed. they changed the pump, and have also run exhaustive tests.

And now It's confirmed - the new fuel pump runs perfectly well with no pressure drop at all in all conditions, run over 10hrs.

Since my pumps been replaced it has happened once briefly, BUT not due to the pump, its now thought there may have been an air lock, and some fuel vaporisation from the heat.

I had also run it all Sat after the new pump, in heat and hard driving (see above post), then today for 6+hrs, and giving it all conditions and load, it hasn't missed a beat. The dealer took it today after I had driven for 3hrs, while it was hot and tested under full load, it and it all seems fixed (got to 29deg outside today).

Just got back tonight and still no problems, after running the car all day on highways and hilly roads.

So yes - push them that it is a pump issue.

I recon you should ring FPV directly and voice your concerns. Maybe even insist initiation of a general recall for fuel pumps.

Its not really acceptable for fuel pumps suddenly quitting like that especially when the situation could be when your missus might be driving the F6 late at night and in the middle of no where and she could get stranded.................

Doesn't do much for your confidence driving a F6 .............

Wonder how many other F6s have the same faulty fuel pumps ( mine included !!!! )
