F6 Rspec - Breakdown!

I've done 10500k's now - 3 oil changes done going gangbusters - then today it DIED in the ass.

Just on my way Back from Armidale today after being away all week (some3 000 k's this week) and under full throttle its starts losing power 4000rpm+ 40k's from home.

It gets worse over the next 100k's, starts spluttering under load, then more power loss down to 300rpm, then pops, splutters and stops. Just 40k's from home.

Can't start. Splutters and cranks but no go. !/2 tank so plenty fuel.

Called my Ford Service - no Idea, call roadside assist - TOWED to nearest Ford dealer in Gloucester (v.small country dealer).

It starts and runs in the workshop - not a spluter (makin me look like a liar)...puts the computer -no error messages (lucky I haven't edited), cranks it to 500, 6000rpm, fine.

so we go for a drive...and it all starts again, lack of power etc, splutters afterb 4000rpm power down...

So I take him back, he says he can't fix it and sends me home (he thinks its a fuel pressure regulator)...I limp home, 60-70km/h- under 300rpm PI**ED OFF!!.

I call my Ford service (FPV) guy and he says -Oh yeah, maybe its the fuel pump??? Says it may be playing up when it gets hot??? This is a f**** performance car - fuel pumps shouldnt die just cause it gets hot??

So I need to get it over to them Mon first thing.

it starts ok now its cool.

but if it's the fuel or fuel pump this shouldn't make any diff??

Guys, Any Ideas?

that's pretty strange, fuel pump sounds like a good guess because it only happens under load. Sometimes you can get faulty parts mate, unfortunately you got one in your R-Spec no less!

Hope its a simple fix for ya and you can keep rackin up plenty of kays!

not sure mate, if it revved when it was stationary, its obviously a load related problem. Maybe the fuel pump is losing voltage when the car is under load and making the pump work harder

Thanks Senna - but why if its the fuel pump would it totally stop - not start, then run again? It then ran at fullrevs not a blip?

I have had a failed fuel pump before. I drove it for a couple of weeks and it was fine under say 3500rpm - you wouldnt know it was buggered.

But give it WOT, and it dsiplayed similiar issues to what you have described.

Exaclty the same thing happened when I owned my 05 swift. They had a recall for for the fuel pump and I never took it in then one day just decided to not start. I called RACV and then its starts.... I look like a tool and go home. Next day same sh*t call RACV again this time just get it towed for free....

It started doing it when the car was warm and apparantly the fuel pumps had an O ring that swelled with the fuel we use in OZ and that's why they needed the recall. After it was replaced she was sweet.

Thanks for the replies -all seems to be pointing to Fuel pump/Pressure under load.

I'll give it back to fix on Mon and see what they come up with - I'll let you know
