I have a standard BA xr6t. with a high flow cat and 8psi tune.

Do you have a boost gauge fitted? With a free'er flowing exhaust you are probably running more then 8psi boost........

Now that your exhaust is less restrictive it's allowing your car to make more boost. Your generic tune will be telling the pcm to add more fuel/timing etc but not enough, thus boost cut!

I'd stop driving it until it's had a tune if I was you otherwise :innocent:

Plugs mate, gap them down to 0.75.

I have had mine at .85 for ages now and have had this same issue recently on 14psi, but fine on less boost... so I kept turning the boost down as I thought it was a coil issue.

Took them out and they were pretty black with some slight red crap on on side of the tips ( this is from occy booster ).

I cleaned them and gapped them to .75 and its all good again... hits 18psi and holds strong now :funnydance:

When you get the cooler kit on you'll find it hits boost ALOT earlier and faster so you'll need to have the gaps at .75 or they blow out... your getting blow out now because they are dirty so spark is weaker and blows out easier.

Give it a go, should be fine after.

Cheers

Chris

I have a standard BA xr6t. with a high flow cat and 8psi tune.

I think it has only really changed once I had the CAT fitted, desperately needing a tune but I'll wait until I have valve springs fitted so I can get headsex to go to work.

Yeah im pretty sure that's your problem, try not to hit boost cut in the mean time and get a custom tune ASAP. Your standard injectors also wont be able to handle the high flow cat which is probably your other issue! But yeah Danny is awesome and will sort out your beast accordingly.

You can re-gap them and see how it goes, though I doubt it will solve your issue, your tune is generic yea?

I know other people have had similar problems, but here is mine.

I flash tuned my car about 2 weeks ago to the 8psi tune, and have been loving it since.

This week though, the car keeps having problems at around 4000rpms

It backfires and sounds exactly like the traction control holding it back, though it isn't traction control.

I cant even give it a good boot now because it chokes at 4000rpms and sounds like sh*t.

I haven't re gapped my plugs yet, going to do that tomorrow and I hope it fixes it but I thought it was odd that it is doing this all of a sudden and not when I first flashed it.

I am having the same problem as you are its about the mid/high 3's through to mid 4's and its a terrible gurgle sound, almost like it cant get enough air out or the turbo is failing or engine misfire. I just took it to Ford and they cant look at today.

Let me know how you go today changing your plugs and I might do the same.

Talking about plugs are there any pix of removal inlet pipes etc... on this site?

By the way I have a 100% stock XR6T 04 52000klms
