Theoretically the engine is supposed to "detune" itself but I wouldn't make a habit of it.Certainly wasn't any audible pinging.
XRPete Member 673 Member For: 17y 5m 14d Gender: Male Location: Here Posted 20/02/08 07:41 AM Share Posted 20/02/08 07:41 AM It even says in the owners manual that it must run on minimum of 95 RON. So would would assume that Ford designed it to run on a MINIMUM of 95 RON.....mine says this also. Recommended - Premium unleaded

When I open up my fuel flap it says 'Ethanol (E10) Fuel suitable' and the owners manual says something like 'premium fuel recommended for maximum performance'. It was a simple question , is it usual for an XR6T to ping using regular unleaded. I was also asking if the engine de-tunes itself to handle the lower octane. Its got nothing to do with being a tight ass!

It was smooth as butter. Felt like crap though.I was in the same situation a month ago. This time I had a flash tune on the car and it was again driving perfect.Seriously dude, its not supposed to ping. Get 95!!!!
