Even now, the VT SS in my opinion craps all over the new VE SS in appearance.I read elsewhere that the Orion won't look too different from the current Falcon BF. 01txr Member 861 Member For: 17y 11m Gender: Male Location: QLD Posted 29/04/07 09:12 AM Share Posted 29/04/07 09:12 AM Hers is something I have heard and you can read it as you like.Iam not saying it is 100% correct and is only my therory on what the next turbo ford will be using.I have a insight into the lighter turbo internals at approx 15% lighter.I think Garrett is currently working on a air bearing system that allows the turbo to spool up quicker and also does not require oil to lubricate hence less drag friction.It still needs coolant to keep things from getting to hot.The info states that at very small clearences this air bearing system can far out support the load of a ball bearing turbo at one-thousandth of an inch thick, it can support hundreds of kilograms.The other positive is under max rpm testing it had no problems and may have had more in it if the testing equipment could spin the turbo harder.The highest they could spin the turbo was over 120 000 rpm witch is the limit of the testing machine.It has also been tested at 650 c intake air temp for over 100 000 startup shut downs with no oil and no problemsDrag on startup takes 4Nm to turn it. once rotating drag is just 1.5Nm, on shutdown the drag was at about 6NmLook out no more starved siezed shafts, no more worring about oil carbonising the bearings up.Defently wont need a turbo timer.Maybe it was on these 2 cars seen testing "Hope so".
