you can get transmax from any auto store, but be aware it is an auto trans fluid! dont be alarmed when you cant find anything on the bottle about manual tremec transmissions.

there is a thread on bleeding the clutch im pretty sure, but its just a matter of cracking the bleed valve, and getting someone to pump the pedal as you keep the master cylinder topped up. bleed valve is in an arkward spot but you can get to it with a shifter. its an 11mm nut iirc and is at about 11 oclock if you look from the back of the trans.

to get the interior trim off I just get my fingers under the silver lookin bit that the leather clips into and pull upwards. there are 4 plastic clips holding it down, one in each corner. you dont have to take the shift knob off to get to the bolts, just push it to the front and you'll be able to get to them no worries.

I have a t56 with a 3.45 diff so my gears are long as hell! end up in 3rd when I should really be in 2nd mostly!

by RRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRR RRRRR do you mean it is grinding when trying to shift or select 1st?

Yes it grinds and doesn't go into gear (doesnt happen often, once in a blue moon reallly), I thought it was my sloppy clutch control b/c my feet being so big make it a bit awkward, or the mat I had under the pedals not letting me push it down so much as needed. But I was really carefull for a bit of time and it happened again . Mind you is hasnt done it lately, a bloke told me sometime if the oil is sh*tty (thick) make it play up a bit.

I had the same dramas your having I got the clutch bleeded and its all good now the clutch fluid does not last long in these things I had it bled at 10,000km all is good now

I was in supercheap auto today and they have the transmax only in 4 litre containers, I suddenly thought , how much do I need and cannot find it in the service book, can somebody tell me how much trans fluid is need in the 6 speed manual please.

Also anybody know the cheapest spot to buy it, 4L is 72 dollars there which seams reasonable for a fully synthetic oil

Youll need 4.85 litres and you will need to fill it through the speed sensor on the drivers side and not the filler plug on the passenger side of the car

The Xr8 on the other hand only uses 3.85.

So I guess your wondering why the T with the same box needs an extra litre

They have put an extra litre due to grear box rumble. Ford found by adding a litre more it made the box a lot quieter

I believe mal wood (a site sponsor) say its ok to run 4 litres

thanks for the quick reply mate appreciated so I need the 4 litre and then try and find a 1 litre container of the stuff, how long does it last for the synthetic stuff. Melbourne winter is commming and the shift is awful until it gets heat in it. Only good thing about it though when its 4C that crap intercooler they fit actually does a reasonable job

Personally I wouldnt bother with the extra litre. I didnt and ive had no dramas at all.

Mine gets changed around every 40 thou or so.

Its great oil and you will notice a big difference

thanks for that, I drive the car over 30K a year so it costs the little stuff, getting a 10lb custom tune in it tomorrow and it wont be any good if I cant shift it any good.

I had a half hour spare the other day so swung by repco and got a 4L of the stuff, 2 doors up was a brakes plus and they changed it for me. Only used the 4L , the box is quieter now anyway, heaps smoother and when cold in the morning is better than when the other was actually warm. such a big difference from just changing the fluid. That sort of thing really annoys me since Ford should do that to begin with, give the best end user satisfaction right up.
