And who ever said that blokes with old V8's with carbies don;t know what they're talking about LOL

I did the the same modification on my WRX as what I suggested earlier taking particular attention to build a 'pool' of cool slow moving air in the wheel well.

That mod alone gave me about .5 sec in performance without upsetting the MAF sensor or tricking the computer to run lean/rich.

The EPA legislation doesn't apply to blue slip inspectors. It applies to the EPA and the Police.

Just don't get caught .

Plonky,

Is it safe to assume that if I put a XR8 assembly as Harasn suggests that there will be no problems with epa etc? :o

Why would this be any different to the K&N jobbie?

It is only air INtake that we are talking about arent we?

Just curious that's all! :o

Hi Plonky, If that mod gave you a .5sec increase, then I'm not here.

Also, that increase would eventually be dwindled away by the dust and crap accumulating in

the filter from all the dirty air in the wheel well.

The cleanest, coolest air is at the front of your car.

I have fitted a BMC air filter in the stock airbox and the V8 is very happy with the extra air at high rev's.

I dont like the the filter pod that sucks in the engine bay heat.

When I ran one in my ford explorer I lost torque down low, made the auto gearbox drop down a gear on hills that the stock airbox never, with only one road out of town you new when she would normly cut back a gear.

The motor ran like a lump of crap in the summer heat.

davo

how mutch did the bmc cost.

has anyone costed the xr8 air box replacement.

I think the xr8 box is larger than the bmc box, looks neater and should flow more air.

1axr,

Got the BMC carbon fibre barrel air intake filter fitted at Perth Exhaust Centre for 650 beer tokens. Don't really know what benefit it gives in engine performance as I had the exhaust mod done at the same time and can't say what I lost due to exhaust (in power). The XR Owners Club in Geelong reckon they got consistant power gains of 9kwrw with the filter alone. I got about 5kwrw gain so theoretically lost 4 kwrw with exhaust. The next dyno shoot out I do I'll put the standard air box on and see what happens. If there is no change or better still an improvement then I'll leave the standard box on and flog the BMC off.

The BMC panel filter (part # 32701) is $165.

Must admit the XR8 box would look neater. I had to move the BMC box towards the front of the car a bit as it was starting to cut into the bonnet heat sheild, nothing major but would have eventually put a 3-4 cm cut through the sheild.
