Ever since I got my XR6T each night when I get out in the garage I have heard a hiss or quiet rumble from under the bonnet.

I always thought it was the pressure leaking from high to low in the A/C or a vacume tank filling. But you know what it is.

Its the turbo.

I have had turbo cars before, but never noticed this before, perhaps because the XR is a roller bearing type.

Just rev up the car or with the A/C on it idles faster (hence my miss diagnosis) turn it off, open the bonnet and stick your ear above the turbo (not that close stupid) and you can hear it slowing down but still spinning for several minutes.

....well I thought it was cool. :D

Yep, noticed that too - especially arriving home late after a night of spirited driving (my car lives in the street, so can't always hear what's going on under there)

Poor car lives in the street eh...

Hope you've got 5 locknuts on each rim.

Nah, around here they just back up a truck and take the whole damn thing (many mercs, beamers etc... have been taken in the last year). Anyway, its all taken care of under the lease - any damage, missing bits (or missing car), and its all replaced at no cost to me (just temporary inconvenience, like having to drive an XT till its fixed)

I think it is actually the thermo-syphon system that Ford have on the XR6t's, ie. water continues to flow past the turbo after shut down.

At least this is what was written in Wheels/Motor, maybe Harasn can confirm?
