But you know what it is.Its the turbo.I have had turbo cars before, but never noticed this before, perhaps because the XR is a roller bearing type.Just rev up the car or with the A/C on it idles faster (hence my miss diagnosis) turn it off, open the bonnet and stick your ear above the turbo (not that close stupid) and you can hear it slowing down but still spinning for several minutes.....well I thought it was cool. :D Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/4262-underbonnet-hiss-after-shutdown/ Share on other sites

Nah, around here they just back up a truck and take the whole damn thing (many mercs, beamers etc... have been taken in the last year). Anyway, its all taken care of under the lease - any damage, missing bits (or missing car), and its all replaced at no cost to me (just temporary inconvenience, like having to drive an XT till its fixed) Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/4262-underbonnet-hiss-after-shutdown/#findComment-34689 Share on other sites

Guest kryzak260 Guests Posted 09/07/03 04:17 AM Share Posted 09/07/03 04:17 AM It can take a few minutes for turbos to coast down. Im not sure about the garrett in the T, but some turbos can spin at anywhere from 130,000 to 180,000 RPM. So you can imagine how long it takes it to stop.
