Has anyone thought about rigging up some form of air duct to send cooling air over a turbo before?

I saw for the first time last week, after a hard run, my turbo glowing red and wondered why this has not been suggested before....

Is it a practical thing to do?...if so, what is the best way to do it?

But how can that be? How can a red hot turbo work better than a cool one??? :tonguepoke:

Maybe we could run really big coolant hoses to the turbo to cool down the charge air?

Heat is not always a bad thing.

Turbos are designed to be HOT, putting cooling air over them could warp the housing as it would be blowing air on one side of the housing.

Garrett and Ford spend a lot of time and money on ensuring the longevity of their products, messing with this could cause more problems than it saves.

Turbo's go through a hell of a lot of pain in the testing phase before being released to use. The Garrett on the T has it easy on stock power so I don't see it having any problems as long as it's well maintained.

Best you put the bung back in your exhaust then, and as for edits etc!

The best way to cool a turbo is an intercooler - keeps the air cooler - turbo cooler.

intercooler keeps intake temps down ,doesn't help cool your turbo

an engine oil cooler might help though
