hey

driving home the other day pulled up at a set of lights and gave the T a fair bit....the clutch just slipped and no power

the car has under 30,000kms and never been modified, its a BA mkii xr6 turbo 6 sp...I still have warranty until april so just wondering if this would be covered, I havent got much hope of it being covered but thought I might ask anyway

cheers

Brett

Wow - a BA MKII with less than 30k - that's awesome! Mines got 70 and its newer than yours!

Did the clutch only slip that one time or is doing it all the time? If it only did it once I don't think there is much concern. If it does it all the time take it in before April.

hmmmm, you'll be borderline with this, as the clutch is a very tricky thing for warranties, it can be classed as a wear and tear item, but see how you go...

a clutch will survive one big slip.

same thing happened to me last weekend, its back to normal now, and I think you are going to have a very tough battle on your hands for ford to warrant a clutch.

thanks for the quick responses, it did it again when I did the same thing the next day but driving normally it just feels the same as it always has...think ill just save the pennies and get a RDP or mal wood option 3 as im looking at moddying it very soon...

but will head to ford tomorrow and see what they say

cheers

not knocking you in any way but perhaps it is your technique. when mine slipped I just asked to much of it, tried for a 4k slip to get it moving, but didn't get off the clutch quick enough and went nowhere. the sweet spot is a bit lower than 4k for sure, somewhere around 3.5k I have found.

yea it was prob 4k that I was trying, usually I only take it to 2.5k but obviously got lag so tried a bit higher...so when releasing the clutch I have always had the impression that you dont dump the clutch but more ride it so to speak as to minimise tyres spin...

thanks for the heads up...and na didnt take offense I know im not the best driver lol...

the torque these cars make at that rpm makes it just too much for stock unit. if you have reasonable tyres (and there arent any constabulary within earshot) also dumping it at 4k and feathering the throttle can provide a quick start. :roflmbo:

You'll have fat chance of Ford covering it if you have launched at 4K and it slipped. The clutch plate itself will have signs of this slip and Ford will classify it as driver abuse on a wear and tear item. Don't even get them to look at it as they will say, yeh, we will have a look, then turn to you and tell you that they wont replace it due to driver abuse and hand you an invoice for $500 for dropping the gear box and inspecting the clutch.

Just take it on the chin that you gave it something it can't handle and just replace it with one of Mal's baby's. No use putting a stoker back in because before long you will need to replace that one.
