I'm here nor there on it..... people are going to complain no matter what they do....

I have only one question and that is "Who's arse did they pull this statistic out of?"

It also aims to cut the number of serious injuries on the road by 30 per cent.

I think the idea is ok, but it should only be from 11pm until 5am, as this is the main time car loads of under 25's are getting killed.

It is also a knee jerk reaction, which it typical of any government.

EXACTLY!! x2

As many have said, somehting does need to be done, but as usual the Governments are only interested in knee jerk, band-aid patches. That way they can look like they're doing something, while actually doing bugger all.

The only solution (as proven in Europe, and said everytime a real expert looks at the situation) is proper driver education, with driver training and tiered licencing.

Restricting passengers is OK, if it is a part of a bigger system, a blanket/general ban doesn't work. It can also be restrictive to employment. For example, a plumber who employs a few apprentices and younger workers can't send them from job to job together in one car or van. He'll have to drive them, or they'll have to use more cars. The plumber will have to increase his fleet, or start paying car allowances or expenses to the workers to make their way around. This will of course get passed onto the consumers.

A proper system would include tiered licencing with proper driver training where once a basic licence is obtained, the driver has to pass through a set range of education before they qualify to carry passengers, or drive powerful vehicles, etc. This should apply for all drivers, not just P platers. A wise man once said, "Practice makes perfect is rubbish, only perfect practice makes perfect."

This is another f*cking stupid legislation that proves that the government doesn't want to spend ANY cash on lowering the young driver roadtoll in Victoria.

DRIVER EDUCATION IS THE ONLY ANSWER

TEACH young people how to drive property. Offer rebates for driving schools if they have had 10 or more 1 hour lessons. Make them drive more than 120 hours before getting their licence. Make them have their L's for a solid 2 to 3 years. Make it an exam, not a stupid test where for $50 you can resit the thing.

Make the kids attend a compulsory driver training session at Sanddown (Like Jim Murcotts' one) to teach them how to brake properly, and even what pressure their tires should be at!

THIS is the only way to reduce not only the P plate roadtoll but the roadtoll in general. Most people do not know what to do when the car starts to spin out of control.

Do you?

What is gong to happen when you get a misses!!!! No mates in the car??

Car pooling was a great way to save your cash expecially due to the little amount young people get from part time jobs when there at uni / last years of high school.

I also totally agree that it goes against the rule of having a designated driver.

From a business point of view, its going to be great for the coupe market.
