Just reading through my manual the other day and noticed a warning about applying metalic based tints to my XR6T... claiming interference with antenna reception.

What other options are available over mealic based tints? I've read a bit on dyed based tints but they don't do much for solar reflection/protection. What has been your solution, be it a dealer or after market solution.

Interesting point. I know I'll be ringing up the dealer and asking the question as I'm getting factory tint.

Thanks for the info. I was on the same line of thinking. I have also heard that their antenna design is less than perfect, constantly losing reception, any of you guys had this trouble with factory tint?

My local tint guy has only the "new" tint as there are so many cars now with glass mounted antennae. I've just had my car done with it (although I didn't need it for my AU) and it looks the same as the old stuff and I can tell no difference with the effectiveness of it as far as reducing glare is concerned. It works OK by me.

I have a friend that works for the company that does the tinting. I asked the same question! What they did was contact European car dealers, they have had antenna in glass for years. They use metalic tint on all side windows, but the rear is a dye based tint, which is only lasts for two years before it goes purple! I have been told that if it does discolour within that time, it will be replaced free of charge so I will still get my car tinted, then in two years maybe there will be a better product available.

exr6> Mine came with a 10 year guarantee against discolouration or any other "faults" so maybe they already have the thing sussed properly - if not I guess they'll be replacing a lot.

We had our car tinted by Novus locally. They use Sun Gard tints, metal film on the side windows and dyed on the rear. Colour match is near perfect and it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Havent noticed any difference with radio reception at all.

l'm happy :)

turbo6man - Was your tint done by Ming???

That is the mob my friend works for. If it is then you should ask the question

Sports Tint were the supplier, and Johnson Performance Tints are the manufacturing company. I wouldn't touch Ming - had bad experience many years ago. Hopefully they have changed.
